Most embarrassing

in #marriage7 years ago

We had been at the 'going out' stage for months and then there was a romantic proposal, down on one knee in a restaurant, which was accepted with happiness. The whole restaurant applauded.

We were on cloud nine, and went home and to tell our families.
My mother-in-law welcomed me to her family, and my parents invited Peter to dinner. After due consultation we all agreed on a date. My mother was an excellent cook and she decided to make Briyani (an Indian dish)

We sat down at the table and started eating.
After about ten minutes Peter excused himself and left the table and I heard the outside door open. The problem was this, Peter was allergic to eggs, I had forgotten to tell my mother, and so he was busy hurling outside.
I don't know who among us was the most embarrassed.

I never forgot that Peter couldn't eat eggs again, my mother never cooked eggs when he came to dinner, but somehow I think he was the most embarrassed at the way that dinner ended.

We got married 2 months later and moved to Johannesburg, South Africa and started our life together.

Now nearly fifty years later when we do the 'do you remembers' we still talk about the breyani episode, and laugh about it, but at the time it wasn't funny at all.
