Infinite isn't a number!
*The following post explain my theories about ∞. None of them are mathematical laws or 100% legit stuff. Watch at your own risk :D
*Disclaimer:this is a bad translation of my post "l'infinito non è un numero".
I would be grateful if possible errors could be corrected in the future.
Today my math teacher said that infinite is a number...
But it isn't !!!
In theory, I could accept a number placed somewhere in the numbeverse that has no numbers next to it. But here there is simple operation that can unleash the beast that infinite,aka the destroyer of all the concepts of mathematics, is:
1 = 2 ....
I'm not crazy, or at least not yet: 1 = 2 is one of the ""wrongest"" equations of all time: only dirty tricks such as divisions by zero can make it true. And now tell me, what does infinity have to do with it?
if you subtract / add / divide (by zero excluded) / multiply a number to both side of a equation, it will be maintained. It is a legit thing,isn't it?
SO...
We can multiply 1 and 2 by ∞. After all,It is a number different from 0,isn't it?
Then
∞ * 1 = ∞ * 2
It is still a wrong equation anyway, right?
No...
It isn't wrong anymore... and yes...
this is a bad thing...
A number multiplied infinite times makes it
a infinite thing. Then
∞ * 1 = ∞ * 2
∞ = ∞
We proved that 1 = 2, then 1+1=2 and 2+2=2. We just destroyed mathematics! Yay!
Wait a minute, what if we try to prove it using other legit stuff?
5 disequal to 6
5 != 6
∞ * 5 != ∞ * 6
∞ != ∞
Is it wrong? Infinite is a strange number and, among all its irregularities, it even could be disequal to himself...
But what if we put 2 other infinites in our example?
∞ : ∞ = ∞ : ∞
It would become 1 != 1 (how do I know? Imagine two equal and infinite chains of numbers that cancel each other out)
1 disequal to 1 makes this disequation destroy +100 rules of mathematical laws and killing as many
Mathematicians,too!
To clarify our ideas, what is infinity?
It's just a concept that explains, as the name implies, that there isn't a "final number". Assigning a different role to him makes infinite destroy the hell out the world of mathematics,so better don't do that!
In a "standard" math yes, infinity is not a number. Nevertheless, your equations do not prove that. You can perform the same tricks with zero instead of infinity. Just replace ∞ with 0, and you can follow the same reasoning, Still zero is a number.
But sometimes it is useful to treat infinity as a number. There is nothing wrong with it. You just need to carefully define and follow the rules of its usage. And you are right, not all infinities are equal to each other.
Oof i googled it and no,you can't multiply the equation by zero. Maybe someone in the future will change this rule to include infinity,but for now...
Infinite isn't a number!
P.s. i overexaggerated it,ofc you can use infinite as a number! My post was intended to correct people saying that it is a 100% legit Real number
The same way you can't multiply them by infinity.
Nobody said that, i just abused the rule ;P
If you consider infinite as a R number, it would be a legit thing. But it isn't...
Infinite could be a hyper real number.
Surely it isn't a real numer tho!
