What is the meaning of life?
The meaning of life could be said is the star that guides us on the path of life. That allows us to give a direction to guide our action in the world even when accidents and events divert us, allowing us to sustain or redirect our internal coherence and, therefore, our physical, mental, emotional and social.
WHAT RELATIONSHIP HAS COHERENCE WITH THE SENSE OF LIFE?
Coherence is related to internally aligning in one direction what we think, what we feel and what we finally do in the world, both for ourselves and for others. If this action in the world is coherent and connected with a positive and higher sense of life, it will result in a progressive and sustained internal state of order and well-being that will reinforce our purpose as persons. This well-being, even when it can be compromised by different circumstances, will be a construction, an internal and external base (family, couple, friends, companions) each time more solid that will sustain us in the bad moments and will promote in the good ones.
WHAT DOES THE SENSE OF LIFE HAVE TO SEE WITH HAPPINESS?
As a result of having a sense of life, an internal coherence as aligned as possible between thinking, feeling and acting, as well as a system of growing interpersonal relationships (couple, friends, partners, children, family), we will experience a progressive and sustained state of happiness. A happiness that is not static but is built, reinforced and fed back, in a continuous work. This is why it is important to meditate regularly on the progress of happiness or suffering in one and our closest affections as a way of measuring our alignment or deviation from the meaning of our life.
WHY DO YOU SUFFER FROM HAVING A HIGHER SENSE OF LIFE?
Suffering is an inescapable part of our passage through the world as empathic and social beings that we are. Life will put us before challenges where suffering will be present in one or more of the decisions to be made and experiences lived. But as long as we have the strength and the necessary internal unity we can somehow be able to "look into the eyes" to that suffering and face it in order to overcome it. The opposite would be to escape, by whatever means, from addictions to denial, entering a downward spiral. On the other hand, suffering, by contrast, allows us to understand, detect and value even more the happiness and the growing well-being that we have or will achieve. I do not say that it is okay to accept and embrace suffering as a way of being constantly and resignedly in the world, but to take advantage of it when it is presented as a tool for growth and reflection. Evolve and do it to reinforce the internal unity. Overcoming the pain and suffering that we face in different stages is a potential high sense of life. But our life always brings with it situations not chosen that were lived as suffering and recorded as such in our memory. Both because we remember them and because we deny them, they are there, and they will create conditioning for us of different types such as fears. Resolving these suffering or traumatic situations is also part of the deactivation of a series of internal sufferings that can threaten the very foundations of our new construction even when based on a better and higher sense of life. The risk will be latent as long as we do not attend to and deactivate that kind of internal bomb associated with memories and experiences that are suffering or traumatic from the past.
