A 17-year-old female presents to the office with concerns of possible pregnancy. History reveals she had unprotected intercourse with multiple partners over the past six months. Physical examination of the abdomen reveals the uterus at the level of the umbilicus. A pregnancy test is obtained and is positive. The most likely gestational age of the fetus is

    • At 20 weeks' gestation the fundus of the uterus is located at approximately the level of the umbilicus.
    • Many disorders of pregnancy can lead to inaccurate fundal height measurements.
    • If an ultrasound confirms the gestation length and the fundal height does not correspond further testing should be initiated.
    • Answers 1/2: The uterus cannot be palpated until 12 weeks' gestation.
