THE HASSLE OF ITCH
Good day Steemians, Have you ever wondered why you scratch the itchy part of your body?, well the sensation of itch is pretty complex process that give us the urge to scratch. It's quite annoying Isn't it. Haha...
Like the feelings of touch, temperature, and pain, itching involves a system of molecules, cells and circuits reaching from the skin into the brain through the Central Nervous System. The brain them immediately responds to the itch and quickly scratches it by sending pain signals
called serotonin, a pain-inhibiting neurotransmitter that overwhelms the itch signals. But why pain instead of itch?.
For example, Insect bites; a Mosquito bite gives an uncomfortable stimulus which encourages scratching.
According to recent researches, scratching an itch offers relief. It surpasses itch temporarily. Scientists also believe that it is in our BIOLOGICAL CIRCUITRY that we normally/naturally scratch. Biological circuitry is an application of synthetic biology where biological parts inside a cell are designed to perform logical functions mimicking those observed in the environment, and of other people.
While these sensations represent dangerous stimuli, by comparison, itch seems to be relatively benign. Our skin faces many reasons to get itchy all year round, from camping season to autumn allergens to dry winter air. No matter the stimulus, hopefully, understanding the nervous system will give you a sense of just what your body is experiencing every time you get the urge to scratch.
So what can we do the next time we feel the compulsion to scratch? Neuroscience tells us the same thing our mothers did when we were children: DON’T SCRATCH. haha.
