This is @perennial, the speaker, the organiser, the litigator, the co-founder of #steem-music and #steem-cartoon.

And the sassy @jassicania, representing #teammalaysiababes, the "Girl On Fire"

It was an event collaboration between @angiechin28 representing #teammalaysiababes and @perennial representing #steem-music and #steem-cartoon, a night of awareness talk on women welfare topics, in conjunction with International Women’s Day, with live music performance (intended 70’s to 90’s music theme).

I love live music performance and I think it is really a good learning opportunity to know more about women’s welfare, for myself, my children and the women community around me.

So I turned up at the event on March 10 at The Liberal Latte, at Damansara Heights at 7:30pm, without much expectation of meeting many that I knew, except for @kaerpediem @jassicania @noriaakip and @angiechin28 whom I have connected with in the @teammalaysiababes group chat since Feb 2018.

The cafe was nice and cozy in a exceptionally quiet corner of an office building on a Saturday evening, like a little gem that only with strong intention would find. Being the first few to arrive, I have the privilege to get a good seat facing the performing space.

I met a lady, Ms Tan, whom have no idea what the event was about, she was tagging along with her husband, James, knowing only there will be live music performance.

As the musicians started to come in with the equipment to set up, and more and more audience trickled in, the cozy cafe started to come alive. What makes this event special to me, is that I see different ages, including teenagers (yes, my thoughts of the supposedly 70’s to 90’s music theme don’t really fit in anymore) and of different races coming together.

The event kicked start as @perrenial, whom I knew as a guy who plays guitar (from the positing of fellow mates at @teammalaysiababes over the last gathering), introducing himself as a litigator, first introducing and invited the one who pushed and is pushing the growth of Steemit community in Malaysia, @bitrocker2020 to give a little insight of what Steemit is. It was nice to see @bitrocker2020 not in a Steemit T-shirt. I thought, maybe he ran out of them as they are all in the washer now... :)

And then @perennial got straight to the point on the topic of women’s welfare.

It was a powerful entrance of the event. Though many probably came with more interest on the music performance, @perennial presented the serious topic in a way that knocked pretty hard on awareness level, both men, women, to-be-man and to-be-woman in the house.

Things that we have heard, read and given empathy never come so real when a man who has dealt with many of the accused non-guilty parties from all cases we see in movies speaks about his experience and sharing his knowledge on what we can do as a victim and as a neighbour when the unfortunate takes place.

The sections of the law… and the different Orders… I need to do more research to share… nah, probably the easier way is to get revision from @perennial himself.

He shared sufficient prominent issues on the topics, which bring the whole cozy cafe into a moment of a full house of silence with deep pondering zapping through the heads. Leaving the much deeper layer (and disturbing as he quoted) and started the music performance session, when i can literally feel the immediate change of atmosphere.

It was a blast of originals and some Pops, R&B, Lagu Rakyat by @calebleeji @sylviagoh @cbppls @jassicania @kymio and Faris (please can I get help to find his handle?) on the ukulele. Tonight, live music made better when the crowd was singing along.

And while we are enjoying the talk and music, @choiko82 was quietly sketching the live performers and speaker. It truly takes patience and calmness to sketch in such excited crowd. And I have always admire calmness. I think it is truly an exceptional gift on top of every gift that we already are.

I am one who hardly party and hang out with friends. It was a window of opportunity when I have a breather from work and my loving hubby has encouraged me to go meet up while he took care of the children on a Saturday night.

A bunch of us continue to connect over mamak at TTDI, yes living the privilege of being in Malaysia, you have food 24-7. Adding on @orangila, the photographer of every steemit event, and @vikapuzach, a Russian origin who ordered her own food, including Teh Halia (makes me wonder, where did she learn to enjoy ginger?)… and Mr Darcy, an Australian who has been living in Malaysia for the past 10 years and loves durian. How ironic?

It touched my heart to see how art and music brings diversity of age, religion and races together. And talking about social issue in the middle of art and music awakens the senses of appreciation and respect for each other.

In that room of Liberal Latte that night and the mamak session after, was purely a strong intention of respect for each other to begin with and brought all of us together.

And it is the baseline where Human Race strive on.

Thank you @perennial and @angiechin28 for the initiative and effort to put this together. I believe the success of building a better and stronger community is when we continue to keep the purpose simple and clear.

I intended to just enjoy the night without taking pictures and videos. And I was whipping my phone looking for lyrics to sing a long most of the time. So here are just some few photos of the night.

Thanks for the amazing music, @calebleejl. You were the skeletal of most performance that day :) And what lovely wife (and her amazing vocal) and kids you have, well exposed kids, especially the 2-month old little cutie, she chatted with me when carried her in my arms :) You bet, when there is music, I'll make extra effort to be there! :)

Hi @melissawong. Can see everyone is enjoying their moments from ur pictures! Its been ages for me, not listening to live music performance. I did once during my uni time with my close friend. At that time was a boy band came to Msia performing at Sunway Lagoon.

Music heals, revives and reenergises. Let your hair down like uni days and soak in the joy. The #steem-music gang is there at Liberal Latte every fortnightly, next is on Mar 24. Try make time for it, @esdee :)

Woohoo!! We did have a great time and looking forward to meet up again! @melissawong

We sure did, @noriaakip! It was so great to meet in person :) Next up, drink, food, music, art, walk or workout sessions :)

That was a really satisfying read @melissawong... Yes my men and woman-to-be got a whiff of what’s out there.... will be looking out for you at future events 😊

It was nice to meet you and your troopers in person, @kaerpediem :) Definitely a great awareness for the teenagers. Yes, hope to meet up more in upcoming events.

Great write up... of the event, I was concentrating on photography and I could hardly remember what was being said or what music was being played

Thanks. That's what a photographer does right, focusing on capturing moments. Thanks for the dedication of taking the photos, while we can focus on being in the moments. :)
