How to Create an ONO Meetup

There are many different ways to promote the ONO social network, and the method you choose depends upon your personality. I’m an introvert who has learned how to be an extrovert, and I just created my very first ONO Meetup group.

I will teach you how to get started. Go to: https://www.meetup.com/

There’s a small monthly fee to host your own Meetup group. Fill out the descriptions and make sure to create a first event.

Here’s what I wrote for my description of my ONO Meetup group:

What we’re about

This group is for anyone who wants to experience a new social network where users are in control of their own data. ONO is a free, decentralized social media for the next generation. All skill levels are welcome, and the mobile app for the ONO social network is very user-friendly. I started this group to introduce Kansas Citians to the new world of decentralized social media and ONO.

I also created an event, as people tend to join groups that have future events listed. Because this is the very first meetup for my group, I chose a casual setting, a cafe with lots of couches, so people can intermingle a bit.

First event is July 14, 2018

Here’s the description of the event which is scheduled for July 14:

This meetup is designed to give you an introduction to ONO, and also to explain how to sign up for an invitation code. ONO is using the invite code system for early adopters, and I’ll explain why this is necessary to do. People are free to ask questions and learn why decentralized social media platforms are popping up, in a time when we are just becoming aware that our own data has value, and that we should be in control of it. ONO doesn’t collect or sell user data. ONO is built for users, and they are the first priority.

Also, I made sure and put lots of photos in my Meetup group (feel free to use any of these images for yours)

One last thing, I wrote a simple message to all the group members, welcoming them, and encouraging them to ask any questions they might have.

Here’s my first message to the new group members:

Hello all new members,
Thank you for joining my new ONO social network group. I am excited to meet all of you on July 14. I just found out that the dApp will launch sometime between July 15–17, so I wanted to let you know about this. There’s always a chance it will be later, though, as software development sometimes throws curve balls.
Just so you all know, the early adopters in ONO will have to get an invite code in order to join. ONO is using the invite code for many reasons, one being, that the beta version which will be released soon, is not yet ready to be used by mainstream people. Early adopters will be helping provide helpful feedback about usability and other features of the dApp.
It’s not required that you sign up to get an invite code, but if you would like to, here’s the link: https://www.joinono.com/en/invite/
The website just underwent a complete redesign, and I’ve been working on the English translations, so keep that in mind if you notice odd spellings, and words. It’s literally being worked on today.
If you have any questions that you’d like to give me in advance, please feel free to do so.
I look forward to meeting all of you next Saturday,
Stella

Note to shy people who might be afraid of creating their own Meetup:

To be 100% transparent, I am not an overly social person. I have been buried in research, writing, and my favorite place to be is behind a computer screen. When I first created my ONO Meetup, I was scared that I would be the only member. At this point, having been out of social activities for a while, I was thinking I would have to go door-to-door just to get some people to join my group.

Well, the crazy thing is that Meetup does advertising for you, and so much to my delight and surprise, I found that 15 people had joined my Meetup group in just a few days. This tells me that people who have similar interests found my group, looked it over and decided to join.

Here are the suggested related topics to add when you create your ONO Meetup group:

So, see how this works: I went to Meetup.com, found my city and did a search for ‘blockchain’. Here’s what came up: my ONO group appeared with the new tag on it:

It’s important to add the related topic ‘blockchain’ to your ONO group

Ok, now you have the basic info to get your own ONO Meetup group started. If you have any questions, please let me know. I can be reached in Telegram @stellabelle.

Thank you!
