Mental health matters
I am now part of a startup team. We are focused on mental health and stress.
Why mental health?
Because I'm a lawyer, and I frequently get stressed.
Because I'm a lawyer, and I see my clients get stressed
Because I get stressed, and I affects how I do what I do.
Because 17 lawyers committed suicide in Singapore last year -- so I was informed.
Because it matters to executives and workers who put in emotional labour.
Because when the client is screaming at them, executives need to smile and be professional.
Because when the boss is shouting at them, executives need to lower their heads and pretend all is fine -- "Yes, sir!"
Because when they are backstabbed in the office, they have no one to turn to.
Because women executives sometimes get sexually harassed and they have no one to talk to.
Because living in the city, you need to commute and there's terrible jams and your boss wouldn't understand when you come in 10 minutes late.
"How was your all day breakfast? You should have taken all day, today."
Because people get mental health issues, including burnout and depression.
And because burnout and depression makes the whole world seem dark and broody, not even worth living for.
Mental health matters.
That's why we are building a business to help executives stay sane and healthy.
Even as they pursue their corporate ladder dreams.
Even as they carry the baby in one arm and work on that spreadsheet at home.
Even as they endure all the pressure that only superheroes can endure.
Because they are our superheroes, and we want to support them.
That's what we're building.
