MERMAID- MYTH OR REALITY

in #mermaid7 years ago (edited)

I was looking at photos of my holiday in Syros Greece in August 2016, I found a photo that seemed to be interesting. Τhe statue of a mermaid holding a man in her arms.

Ι was looking at the photo and thinking about the story of this mermaid.
So I searched and found some information I did not know.

Syros is an island of the Cyclades, sculptor George Xenoulis made a monument dedicated to people lost in the sea.
Was made in September 2003 the unveiling of the project called "Mermaid-Virgin’’. The monument is a brass statue he represents, in natural size, a mermaid sit on a reef to hold in her arms the inanimate body of a fisherman. The monument is located in a central spot of Kinios beach and is one of the most famous sights of Syros.

The myth of the mermaid knows no borders. We meet them almost all over the world, in different seasons and cultures. The form of a mermaid may vary from place to place and from season to season, but is impressive that seafarers from different cultures have described female figures with a tail of fish to call them.
There are many myths about mermaids, each country has its own story but there are also testimonies of people who have actually seen a mermaid.

In Greece the myth about the mermaid says it is a sea demon that grabs sailors from their ships and then sinks them, responsible for the tornadoes in the sea. He was sister of Alexander the Great who was drank the immortal water and was appearing to people at midnight on Saturday. Mermaids live in the Black Sea and often descend to the Aegean Sea. When she meets her on the way, a ship catches her from the prow and asks: "Does King Alexander live?" If the sailors respond that he lives, he lets them leave played with her lyre.

But if the sailors answer that King Alexander died and does not live anymore, he sails the boat high and falling into the water by taking with her and the sailors.
Then the mermaid regrets it for the lives of the sailors who took away and with her crying a great storm take of n its path everything.

In China the legend says that the mermaid tears's were transform into inestimable pearls. Also, mermaids could weave an extremely precious, beautiful, transparent cloth. For this reason, the fishermen tried to catch them. But those with their wonderful song are throwing them in a coma. In other legends of China, the mermaid appears as a admirable creature but extremely silly.

The legend says that the mermaid was born with purple tails who "smelled" happiness. If their lives were distressed or death, then the color of their tail changed. It was red and had the "smell" of sadness.

In Scotland there is a mermaid called "ceasg" or "nymph of the wave". The ceasg can satisfy three wishes for anyone who catch it.

Many claim to have seen a mermaid or even a male mermaid in different countries. Even today there are areas where live or dead gorgons have appeared, is a very frequent phenomenon. In August 2009, in Kiryat Yam, near Haifa, Israel, dozens of people reported seeing a mermaid jump out of the water, jumping like the dolphin.

Local authorities have provided $ 1 million to anyone who has been able to prove that there is a mermaid in their marine area. Evidence never came.

Today, we all know it's just a myth but let's be honest, who has not thought what magical it would be to see a mermaid pop out from the water, her long hair could shine in the sun and her lovely eyes could look at him.
A little imagination not hurt………
