I check out blog posts on steemit on a regular basis. Some posts are too short, and just containing a pic and a line, and some are so large that the readers may get bored of reading them. It appears that many persons just write the post for the sake of writing, and not thinking about the content.
For short term, upvoting in exchange of upvote may work, but, steemit is a large platform, and just 20-30 upvotes may not earn you much. To grow and earn well on this platform, you need to earn upvotes from whales and for that, you will need to work on your content. I don't consider myself as a very experienced person here, as I am still learning, but what I have learnt from my short experience of 2 months, I am writing here, so that the new users of steemit may get some benefit out of it.
I have seen many posts which do not have any content, but just a video from the internet, which they post as if it is their own, without giving credit to the original uploader. Also some users post just copy-pasted content. Such posts fall in the category of 'plagiarism' and are downvoted/flagged by some of the strict whales, who consider only quality in every post. So avoid doing these things.

Focus on quality, not just quantity. It will be beneficial for you in the long run. Becoming a whale may be easy by investing, but maintaining it is not so easy, if your posts are not up to the mark.
