Breaking News! Michigan's Bureau Of Medical Marijuana Regulation Imposes Daily Limits On Medical Marijuana Patients
Well friends, unfortunately we kind of saw this coming....
The state of Michigan has imposed a 3% use tax on gross sales of retail medical marijuana and has added a 6% retails sales tax as well.
Recently the price of retail medical marijuana has been falling steadily over the past 6 months as more dispensaries open and create a competitive market that benefits patient consumers.
The state of Michigan figured out that if the price of marijuana drops then so does their tax revenue on a percentage basis.
The state has now limited licensing to just 12 dispensaries across the state and created a slower process for cultivators to get their product on the shelves of dispensaries by literally imposing a "middle-man" tax with the requirement for licensed Secure Transporters to haul marijuana around for an inflated price. This hurts patients by increasing the costs for producers and forces the retail dispensaries to increase the price, this passing these hidden taxes along to the patients.
