New Mexico- I love you!steemCreated with Sketch.

So last year this time, I was headed to the top of Sandia Peak in Albuquerque, NM. It was an eye opening experience to stand at the top of a mountain and feel so small. At that moment, I realized how great my little self was. I realized that in this vast world, my work, my passion, and my drive could effect change. We didn’t stay at the top too long because it was freezing and my fiancé was not a fan of the wind gusts. However, I feel like I came back down a little changed in my perspective.

I have always felt “called” to New Mexico. I mean, I almost moved there, sight unseen, to take my first job as a Certified Nurse- Midwife there on an Indian Reservation. They call it the enchanted place and it absolutely is. So when I was recently discussing where I wanted my ashes to be spread this is what I decided (yes, I’m the cremation type unless I die under suspicious circumstances- I watch too much First 48 and Dateline lol) I hope to own land in New Mexico and practice as a rural midwife who barters for services. Maybe that will help me build my earthship.

Back to my trip, we enjoyed wine via a groupon at a local place that seemed more like a gentleman’s backyard. We actually purchased wine that we soon realized we could not ship back to Illinois for us to enjoy. So we drank and donated the other bottle to a wedding party at our hotel.

We also took the advice of a guy at our hotel and drove through Madrid, NM as we headed to Santa Fe. It was a scenic drive of rolling hills and randomly came upon a festival happening in Madrid. Instead of getting caught in the fray, we choose to have java.

So we finished heading to Santa Fe and enjoyed beautiful sights and sounds and finished the day knowing we would never live in Santa Fe. We drove back to the hotel in Albuquerque enjoying awesome little bits of chocolate. The rest of my trip really involved me being at a midwifery conference that took place in the middle of a Trump rally (interesting dynamic- see pic below of the secret service and police frisking for us to attend an educational session). All in all, the enchanted place is a mystical place and I can’t wait for it to call me again.
