Enjoying the scenery of hundreds of Rumah Gadang is an unusual sight today. There are not many areas in West Sumatra that still have Rumah Gadang still awake in authenticity, even though they are still Minang original descendants.

In Minangkabau, Rumah Gadang is a hallmark for minang people. Rumah Gadang or commonly known as Bagonjong House has a wide meaning. Not only physically, more than that, Rumah Gadang is closely related to the customs in Minangkabau.

Nagari Alam Surambi Sungai Pagu has existed since 12 centuries ago. The people there are hunters who come from Nagari Pagaruyung, Batusangkar. Namely offspring from DT. Katumanggungan and DT. He said, Rumah Gadang Malayu Bu Anau is also a place to entertain guests who come. "Usually if there are guests coming from either our government, institutions or private guests there, there is agreement from the tribe," he explained.

176 the Rumah Gadang is devoted to the seven jorong (village-red) in Koto Baru. That Village is; Jorong Lubuak Jaya, Bariang Rao-rao, Kampuang Nan V, Bariang Kapalo Koto, Kiambang Jaya, Muaro Parak Gadang and Sungai Aur.

Of the 900 heads of households, those in Nagari Koto Baru are nine tribes. That is; Bariang, Malayu, Koto Kaciak, Durian, Panai, Kampai, Caniago, Sikumbang and Koto Anyia.

"The nine tribes consist of 140 Penghulu (Niniak Mamak). One Penghulu has one Rumah Gadang, some even have two Rumah Gadang," he said.
