an increased sensitivity of the central nervous system and a deeper cognitive processing of physical, social and emotional stimuli".[1] The trait is characterized by "a tendency to 'pause to check' in novel situations, greater sensitivity to subtle stimuli, and the engagement of deeper cognitive processing strategies for employing coping actions, all of which is driven by heightened emotional reactivity, both positive and negative.

Highly sensitive people have a heightened sense of empathy; they are also able to feel the subtle changes of energy around them. This ability is almost like radar which helps sensitive people detect things that might not be obvious to others, whether it be tension between people in a room or pretentious behaviour between people there are many ways this ability can be useful more especially when it comes to spiritual awareness. This ability can be a gift and a curse at the same time depending on the circumstance. Within tribal societies highly sensitive people would likely serve as shamans among their fellow tribesman.
Modern society has turned its back away from this knowledge and custom. Sensitive people no longer have a role in our society, not one that we acknowledge and value anyway. The wisdom that used to come from these people is fading away and is being replaced by information systems of a purely materialistic nature. Highly sensitive people have the ability to see beyond the physical world, they can sense and feel the vast and rich world that exists behind the material interface. They can feel the “dark matter” of our reality you can say. You can compare this ability to snorkeling, scuba diving and deep diving. Each one of these goes a level deeper, someone who has only done snorkeling cannot relate to the experience of a scuba diver or deep diver; the same would go for a scuba diver; only through direct experience can a scuba diver be able to understand and relate to a deep diver.
Highly sensitive people have a great responsibility to bear and sometimes it might feel like a burden especially when you are living in a world that has a purely materialistic view of life. As a highly sensitive person it is your responsibility to tell the uncomfortable truth because you simply cannot pretend to know otherwise. Since we live in a world where flattery and sarcasm are preferred to the truth then often honesty is met with animosity and contempt. For the sake of clarity and balance this might not always be the case; sometimes the truth can be welcomed and appreciated. No matter how tough the role of a highly sensitive person may seem to be, in the bigger scheme of things this is an honorable role to play, it is also important to remember that nature would never burden you with a task that is too much for you to bear; meaning that somebody must have a lot of faith in you to give you such a task. Wear you crown with honor and be grateful for your role in this time of great transformation.
In our modern society we are met with many challenges and distractions. It is important for us to decipher for ourselves what is good for us and not. Therefore anything or anyone that you interact with should serve you in the best of ways if not you should be able or learn to let it or them go. The fact of the matter is, while you are concerned with your growth and evolution as a spiritual being some people want to have fun playing beer pong, taking selfies and chasing popularity. Ultimately there is nothing wrong with having fun but not while the whole world around you is crumbling, ignorance is not bliss; if you are aware of this then it is your responsibility to alert the others and whether they choose to ignore you or not this is not your problem because you have to fulfilled your duty and the rest is up to them.
Power and responsibility make a beautiful pair. We all have the power within us and that same power should compel in us a sense of responsibility; with great love still in our hearts, for all that is good.
“If you are highly sensitive and you know it, raise your hand”
With these words I leave you in love and peace.
