in #mining8 years ago

Devcoin is an ethically inspired cryptocurrency created in 2011 to support open source projects by programmers, hardware developers, writers, musicians, painters, graphic artists and filmmakers worldwide. Devcoin is one of the longest running blockchain based digital currencies. Devcoins can be merge mined with Bitcoin, earned by developing, writing or completing tasks known as bounties, or purchased on various exchanges. It is a SHA-256 cryptocoin and can be mined with specialized Bitcoin ASIC mining hardware.

Jumping right in. Great that you bring Devcoin back to the forefront. In some way Devcoin could be regarded as a spiritual predecessor of Steemit: by the community for the community. Although much more loosely organised, Devcoin also had a website for writers to post articles and earn Devcoins, called Devtome. Writers and artits earned Devcoins for creating value (items/services etc).

As a matter of fact, the Devcoin community recently started an initiative to relaunch this coin. If you are interested, you can visit the official Bitcointalk thread here.

I do not know whether the listed exchanges are still valid. Cryptsy is gone for sure. The active exchange for Devcoin currently available is https://www.coingather.com/

I would love to see this coin get some more attention again as 'community coin'.
