Add2Psu Comparison
As many other mining rig builders, you might have had problems getting a PSU with enough wattage to support all your graphic cards so you thought about or chose to buy an Add2Psu to add together two lesser power supplies instead.
If that's the case, then I have something to tell you about the Add2Psu components.
There is the original Add2psu component that you can buy at www.add2psu.com and then there is the Chinese copies.
In this post I'm gonna make a comparison between the original Add2Psu and a Chinese one made by Tishric.
At the time of writing this post, you can get the original Add2Psu from the official website for about 12.95$, not including a shipping fee of about 15$ if you're living outside the USA. The total cost of the product with the shipping cost will be about 27.95$ for a product that's not even better than their Chinese competitors.
First of all, the contacts on the original Add2Psu are too close to each other.
Whenever you stick in the second cable, one of the cables will be forced away by the other and bend.
After that, when I tried to unplug the cables, one of the contacts fell off!!
The Chinese one by Tishric, on the other hand, worked just fine.
Sure, you can see a tiny bend, but it ain't doing any damage and nothing fall of when you unplug the cables.
Here's a pros and cons chart with the Original to the left and the Tishric one to the right
Pros:
Original Add2Psu | Tishric Add2Psu |
---|---|
Well, it works I guess. | Works fine |
------------------ | Very cheap |
------------------ | Free shipping from China |
Cons:
Original Add2Psu | Tishric Add2Psu |
---|---|
Expensive | It bends a little |
Expensive shipping | ------------------ |
Contacts too close | ------------------ |
Breaks easily | ------------------ |
Conclusion
I see absolutely no advantage the original one has over it's Chinese counterparts,
so I recommend you to just buy the Chinese one and stay away from the original.
