Lately, I've been talking a lot about how awesome the Minnow Support Project is, and I've been recommending that everyone join us. It has recently come to my attention, though, that some people still don't quite fully understand what the Minnow Support Project is and how it's supposed to help them, and even others who are still confused about how to join MSP. I decided to write this post to go over several benefits of being a part of the @MinnowSupport Project community, and then to show the steps to get registered as a full member of the community with access to all the benefits.

How Can the Minnow Support Project Help Me?

I'm going to come up with a list of benefits that I believe you, the reader, would find helpful for your growth here on Steemit. If you do find them helpful, I hope you'll consider joining us!

I suppose a really big reason that people are drawn to the Minnow Support Project is because of our upvote bots. Once you're a fully registered member of our community, you'll gain access to two bots that will upvote your content on command, with a cooldown of 12 hours each time. The @MinnowSupport bot then has a list of Steemians who follow it on a voting trail, meaning your post will get even more upvotes and more exposure.

The next big way that the Minnow Support Project can help you, is by hooking you up to an actual support network of people who, just like you, are just trying to successfully navigate through the deep ocean of Steem on Steemit. You will meet some awesome people who honestly want to see you succeed and will celebrate your little victories with you. You will make some cool friends who will talk to you about anything and everything, and who will usually always be more than happy to check out your newest post.

Of course, after making real connections with these people, what happens next is only natural. A lot of these people will then become your earliest followers! Stay engaged with them, pop into the chat from time to time, and you will feel the support that naturally comes from being part of a community like the Minnow Support Project. These people are all about making real connections with real people, so don't be shy!

Before you know it, you'll wake up one day to find that you've acquired 100 followers! And then another day you'll wake up to find that you've acquired 200 followers! Being a part of the Minnow Support Project will help you grow your network of friends and followers on Steemit. The friends you make in MSP will sometimes resteem your posts, helping you gain even more visibility and more chances to grow your audience.

The Minnow Support Project isn't always just serious business, either. There are several side rooms within the server where people can discuss specific topics, such as art-discussion, food, gaming, truth-politics-conspiracy, sustainable-living, and there's even a 420barandlounge for the cannabis enthusiasts of Steemit. There's also a jukebox channel, where you can queue songs up and share your musical tastes with whoever is tuning in to the jukebox with you.

How Can I Join the Minnow Support Project?

The first thing you'll want to do is click on the image above. It will link you to our Discord server, which is being hosted by the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network. If you don't have an account on Discord, it will prompt you to create one, which will only take a few seconds to complete. Once you're in, you'll be taken to general-shallowend-noposting, where you'll be welcomed by whoever is in there at that time.

You'll eventually be directed over to start-here, where you can read some useful links to help you get more acquainted with MSP. If you read the things posted in this channel, you'll gain a much better understanding of what MSP is.

After getting acquainted with the Minnow Support Project, you'll want to click over to the registration tab so that you can complete your registration process and gain use of the upvote bots.

To initiate the registration process, you'll need to type the following command, where "steemitusername" is replaced by your Steemit username. You can see an example of this in action in the above screenshot.

$register steemitusername

However, when you initially type the command, you'll be met with messages like the ones you see above. Now you'll have to hop over to your Steemit profile to send 0.001 SBD to @minnowsupport and 0.001 SBD to @banjo. When you visit your profile, you will see a tab for Wallet. Click on that.

From there, you'll want to click on the dropdown arrow next to either Steem or Steem Dollars, whichever one you feel like using/whichever one you have available to use.

From there, you'll want to click on Transfer.

Now you'll have to go back to the Discord window to see what each bot instructed you to include as the memo for each transfer (the memo will be different for each bot). In the "To" field, type in minnowsupport. In the "Amount" field, type in 0.001. In the "Memo" field, paste the memo that the minnowsupport bot on Discord instructed you to use. Make sure all of the details are correct, and hit Submit. You will need to log-in again to confirm the transaction from your end, so have your password ready.

Repeat the same process, this time using the details that the banjo bot on Discord instructed you to use. This time, you'll populate the "To" field with banjo instead.

Once those two transfers have been submitted, you'll have to return to the MSP Discord registration channel to complete your registration process.

While still in the registration tab, you'll have to re-type the same command you used earlier to get the bots to register that you have completed the process.

$register steemitusername

The bots will tell you that you have been registered, and that's it! It should look similar to what you see in the screenshot below.

Congratulations on your new membership to the Minnow Support Project! You can now head over to the upvote channel and get your posts upvoted by our bots every 12 hours. Before you do that, though, I encourage you to check out some of the tabs on the server and get a feel for your fellow MSP members. Introduce yourself, get to know the others, and just really connect with us! The connections that we make are the key to how amazing the Minnow Support Project experience is, and that translates over into how awesome your Steemit experience will be as a whole.
