How to CPU mine Monero(XMR) via Cloud on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 (command line)
I just wanted to share for newbies who want to mine via Linux and dont know how to. I am being one of those people and took me a couple of days to figure out. My machine runs Ubuntu 16.
Don't be too rough if I have any errors. My 1st post.
Step by step:
1.Below installs wolf cpu miner:
cd ~ && rm -f install_monero.sh && wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Quanttek/install_monero/master/install_monero.sh && bash install_monero.sh
2.Below allows to create a session you can disconnect from ( so that mining continues after you close SSH)
tmux
3.Below allows you to open the directory with the miner and start the mining process (3 commands):
cd cpuminer
cd cpuminer-multi
./minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://mine.moneropool.com:3333 -u YourWhalletHere -p x -t 8
4.Below allows you to unattach from tmux session: Ctrl+B and then D
5.Below allows you to close SSH session: exit
Note:
A. -t switch in the step 3 indicates how many cores your CPU will use. I am using max 8 (This is how many vcores an i7 has). You might want to change depending on the CPU setup.
B. You might get "Core not supported" error when opening minerd. If this happens it is because the CPU is not supported by the version of the miner you are using. You can try installing a different version by using this command:
cd ~ && rm -f install_monero.sh && wget https://github.com/Quanttek/install_monero/releases/download/0.8/install_monero.sh && bash install_monero.sh
