Yes, the legalization of pot is a tax grab. Some of the provinces have even decided to take control of all retail operations (further tax grab). Also, the various federal and provincial carbon tax schemes are proving to be tax grabs. Canadian government finances are in a mess because too much of the borrowing that is going on is being done just to keep the system running. The current government of Ontario has increased the provincial debt by something like $140 Billion during its 15 year reign but there are not $140 Billion worth of shiny new things to account for all of that spending. Using one credit card to pay off another doesn't usually end well for us individuals and I cannot believe it will end well for our governments.
