You really want to be rich? Quit your job!
Become rich by working? Impossible, according to author and columnist Jeff Haden. According to him, entrepreneurship is the only way to become truly wealthy while fulfilling on a personal level.
It is on the site of the American magazine Inc., of which he is one of the contributors, that Jeff Haden has exposed his demonstration of the lack of profitability of the wage-earners.
He considers this option to be unattractive, as it is like putting all his money in the same basket, with a generally low annual increase. But above all, this income can fly off abruptly, for a reason beyond its control and which is sometimes not seen at all.
"When you work for someone else, the potential is still limited - because yes, you can always be increased, but in most cases by 3 or 4% at the most," he writes.
"However, the disadvantage is always unlimited, because being fired or dismissed can make your income disappear overnight and with it, the considerable investments made in terms of time, effort, dedication and sacrifice."
Jeff Haden's statement is therefore without appeal: "Very limited potential. Unlimited risk. [Having a job] is a very bad investment. "
ENTREPRENEURSHIP, THE WAY FOR WEALTH?
In support of his idea, he plunged into the figures of the 400 largest income tax returns published by the IRS, the US equivalent of the Canada Revenue Agency. In 2009, an income of $ 77.4 million was required to be included in this list.
The share of wages in these incomes climbs only 8.6% on average. This is more than interest (6.6%) but less than dividends (13%). So how did these super-riches rally their wealth? Thanks to the corporations, up to 20%, but mainly thanks to the capital gains.
In summary, working for a salary, investing in low-risk investments or in large-company equities is insufficient to become truly wealthy.
The only way to make a fortune is to get into business. In fact, all the millionaires who are at the top of Forbes' ranking are entrepreneurs.
HAPPY ENTREPRENEURS
For Jeff Haden, entrepreneurship is not only synonymous with wealth but also personal fulfillment. "All entrepreneurs are turned on when they talk about their entrepreneurial life, because they feel alive: free to chart their own path, to make their own decisions, to make their own mistakes, to have heaven as their only limit and Not only financially, but also, and above all, personally. "
He adds that no matter what their return on investment, these bosses feel really rich, regardless of their income. "
Jeff Haden thus offers a plea for entering the business world, even if it means creating a small business that develops while keeping his job.
In addition, he recommends retaining a salaried activity since he recognizes that the risk potential is unlimited, but the financial and happiness potential is also unlimited.
"Become an entrepreneur. This is the best investment you can make because it involves investing in yourself. "
He is absolutely correct. Working for yourself is the only way to become truly wealthy. Your time is your own, you make all the rules, and your income potential is controlled by you and you alone. You don't get any of that with a traditional job. I realized that pretty much immediately after getting my first full-time job. I was miserable, and didn't stay at it very long. I knew there had to be a better way. My income has been up and down and back up again many times since then, but I've always been happy with my decision to avoid traditional employment. Doing that kind of thing sounds like torture to me now. Self-employment all the way!
I don't take orders well, either, and hate it when people tell me what to do, so any traditional job I've had, part-time or otherwise, I was always thinking, "Who are you to tell me what to do?" I get resentful of it really quickly. Authority, rules....I prefer to be my own and make my own. Entrepreneurship gives that to you. :)
