How Technology's Biggest Companies Make Their Money

in #money8 years ago (edited)

Who's making money off you?

I found this infographic interesting. Google and Facebook are good reminders that nothing is free on the internet. Your info stream and your personal data (Facebook) are incredibly valuable, and someone else is making money off of them.

All the more reason to love steemit: you're getting paid for your online life instead of someone else.

  ~~~ STEEM On !!! ~~~
Good info!
It crazy to think you could get rid of all of these companies and it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference in the world. You would log into your Linux PC or your Linux phone "the os we would all be using right now if google didn't exist", go to a different search engine, and order from an online vendor other than amazon, while chatting to your friends on Steemit. All the above companies gone, with no loss to you, stock market = crash.
The thing about these companies is that they weren't the first to do what they do, but they figured out how to do it best.
Maybe there's a good life lesson there: hard work and execution is often more valuable than uniqueness.
My hope is that rather than using their size to suffocate competition, we'll continue to see innovation that challenges each of these companies. Smartphones, for example, have become stagnant. We're in need of a truly innovative communications device.
