The Best Piece Of Advice My Grandma Ever Gave Me

in #money7 years ago

Today I wanted to share with you a little about my Grandma, she is an amazing lady. She turned 100 years young recently, and someone who has the life experience she has is full of invaluable knowledge and wisdom. I’m so incredibly thankful to be able to have such a great relationship with her, and for all the life lessons she has given me along the way.

As someone who has lived through wars, economic crashes, and moved to America to escape the Nazis, I figured I would share with you some advice she has given me. Remember, the two best teachers are struggle and time, and believe me, she has experienced both.

Tai: So Grandma, you’re 100 years old. What’s been your secret to longevity?

Grandma: I keep an active body and mind, I still do yoga or Pilates everyday, and I enjoy playing games that require thinking.

Tai: If you’re staying active and fit, than anybody can. No excuses.

Grandma: Right.

Tai: You used to beat my grandpa in chess, and then he got mad and he wouldn't play you anymore. Men don't like to lose. Moral of the story is, don't play your grandma if she's a shark.

Grandma: Yes but there’s always luck involved.

Tai: What is one of your favorite sayings?

Grandma: It’s a German saying, it means “tomorrow, all the lazy people say tomorrow.” Just do it now, stop procrastinating.

Tai: Right, I always say the best way to beat procrastination is to do the work.

Grandma: Exactly, just get it done.

Tai: I’ve noticed when we play board games you’re a bit of a risk taker, have you always been that way?

Grandma: Yes, but like I said, luck is always involved. Never push your luck, because eventually you will lose. Make smart risks.

Tai: And you hate loosing, don’t you?

Grandma: Yes, but I will always admit when I lose.

Tai: Thanks for everything Grandma

She’s a woman of few words, but what she says carries so much weight. It’s very rare that someone her age is so active and mentally strong. One of the best pieces of advice she has given me is to live everyday as if it is your last. If you live with this mentality, you won’t want to procrastinate anymore.

I hope that her words stick with you like they do for me.

Stay Strong
