Tutellus reinvents educational model by paying students for learning
Tutellus, the largest collaborative learning platform in the Hispanic world, has announced a new platform (Tutellus.io) developed on the Ehereum blockchain that focuses on student empowerment.
Although in Tutellus.com the pupil pays for learning (traditional model of e-learning platforms), in Tutellus.io it is the pupil who earns money through the activities he generates in the platform: the more he learns (and more activities he performs), the more money he earns.
How is that possible? Well, to do this, Tutellus has tokenized the platform and is able to measure the relevance that users acquire in each topic and while they learn, so that this measure of relevance (calculated through an internal token, the STUT) will mark the quality of the student.
In parallel, the company has created an ERC20 token, the TUT, with which it hopes to raise $40 million dollars in an upcoming ICO. Each student can decide at the end of a course if they want cash (tokens TUT) or prefer to keep their relevance (tokens STUT) to stand out more than the rest. (Similar to Steem.)
With this amount raised Tutellus will launch a new business model based on the creation of new professional profiles from the study through scholarships and activities. Of the total amount collected at the ICO, the platform intends to start with an amount of 20 million dollars for scholarships.
According to Miguel Caballero, CEO of the company, "a strong commitment to Scholarships allows us to virtualize the mechanisms of user acquisition and improve the conversion of existing ones, activating the tokenomics of the business and putting the machinery into operation". To reach all these communities quickly, Tutellus aims to reach agreements with large NGOs, governments and entities such as the World Bank.
Since Tutellus has a strong presence in Latin American markets (with 1 million students), the company intends to start the Scholarships model with users of the platform who already know the product. Latino countries have preference when it comes to creating these professional profiles.
A new educational model
"Online education platforms have the same problems as traditional teaching: low motivation of students and teachers and low recurrence; how many of us have started an online course and not finished it? With Tutellus.io we turn the model around, any user can earn money". The company intends to incorporate the token into the platform during the first half of 2018, marking the commercial start of the model.
Education is the sector that has evolved least in the last 1000 years. Most importantly, no education model allows disadvantaged people to earn money by studying: on the contrary, they must invest money to train and aspire (even if no one can guarantee it) to earn it in the long term.
Tutellus solves the problems described in a very simple way:
