If steemit is fast to respond and focus on improving things then I do not think they will loose to any kind of EOS blockchain. However, not changing would make it right for a nasty sibling rivalry fight.
I think Steemit is mostly set up fine. I think its anti-investor culture might be hurting it the most.

Thanks for the massive upvote. I upvoted all of your blog posts. I bet Steem could be at $10 or maybe even $100 right now if our culture was better. Hopefully someday Steem investors will feel comfortable actually using the platform and not have to delegate all their Steem Power away to bots.
That's exactly what I think.
We should move to make Steem better place.
