Life's complexity - making decisions and making money

Life’s complexity

Reality is complex. As human beings we have to make decisions. I have the problematic tendency to overthink things… trying to make decisions with so much information, I end up making no decisions at all.

The businessman Grant Cardone, kind of does the opposite. He is 90% focussed on taking action. We can only take one day at a time. He produces results. An example of this in my life, I took a two day job because I am still not working for an employer. What I noticed was that I was using skills that I had accumulated from all my previous work. All the jobs which I did not exactly love, but had gotten real skills and real abilities.

Another good thing I have learnt from Grant Cardone is to think of myself as a business(basically an entrepreneur). That even though you may be working for an employer, you need to think of yourself as a contractor. The employer is paying you money, they are your customer, you need to provide as much value as you can. Even if you are providing 10x more value than what you are being paid, working your ass off. The business does the same for their customers, they have to provide more value than they are being paid to keep the customer.

It is a selfish mentality when we start to think I am not being paid enough. That we are being unfairly paid. What we should focus on is providing so much value to the customer that they want to pay us more! With this mentality we work hard developing our business; the business being ourselves. I think I get depressed when all I think about is what I ‘have to do’. We do need to enjoy the fruits of our labour. We have to be selfish in this respect.

I previously though this to be highly narcissistic. This is a chicken and egg problem. Do we do things for others, for the sake of doing things for others? Or do we do things because we are motivated by by what we will get in return. As a matter of fact we are highly dependent upon one another as a species, we get from one another as much as we give to one another. We won’t get very far screwing people over, because people are not stupid and will protect their interests.

So in conclusion. Taking action seems to have more value, than just processing information. Jordan Peterson’s lectures on psychology, I believe backs this up. Our reptilian brains, he said, can function independently of the rational/strategizing brain. He uses the example of cats, and walking legs. Legs walk on their own when they are put into motion.

Legs walk on their own when they are put into motion(video of lecture below). This brain will function independently, and it is purely focused on taking action. I believe our thinking brain is designed to support our actions, not living for thinking.
