Better buy some spaghetti

Don't mind me, just back with another doomsday post ^_^

So, this is something I was expecting to happen, due to all the heatwaves we had and we will probably have soon in Europe, and looks like I just got my verification

Cereal production in southern Europe is expected to fall by up to 60% on last year in the wake of the Charon heatwave currently gripping the continent

The 2023 European cereal harvest is set to be its lowest since 2007 – at 256 million tonnes, some 9.5% lower than the five-year average of 283 million tonnes, European farming organisation Copa Cogeca said this week. source

So yeah, better stockpile some spaghetti and shit and maybe some meat if you can afford it. Needless to say, if cereal price go up, meat will follow, possibly exponentially. Remember, cows don't grow on trees, 1 kg of meat needs more or less 10 kg of plant material.

Even if there's no food crisis wherever you live, food is gonna definitely get more expensive.

You can always get some flour too, but remember to store it properly. There are many guides out there, what works for me is putting it into a refrigerator for a week or so to kill all the bug eggs and then putting it into a dark place in air tight containers.

Oh, and if you think this is just a European problem, think again

India last week suspended exports of non-basmati varieties of rice after heavy monsoon rainfall damaged newly planted crops due to be harvested in winter. With rice retail prices up 3% in the past month and 11.5% over the past year, the government hopes to quell food inflation by reserving more grain for the domestic market. source

Similar reports come from all over the world, even for products not necessary for life, like chocolate and coffee. If you think food became ridiculously expensive the past year, you haven't seen anything yet. And honestly, I can't wait to see how Karens will react when their Starbucks coffee is double the price 😆

We are living in weird times so better hope for the best, prepare for the worst, regardless if you believe in climate change or some elite masterplan to make us eat bugs just for the lulz. Prices will go up regardless of who is right.
