Monkeys History
Do you have a problem group of workers? A division, a team, a division that simply does not adapt to the cultural values you're promoting? In a latest Chief Executive Boards International meeting, a part clarified a little group of workers that had a history of discontent, mindset issues and an overall lack of teamwork. This scenario reminded me of that the parable of that the monkeys, told to me by a part of the Chicago CEBI Board. It happened that there were 3 monkeys in a cage. Suspended in the top if the cage has been a few bananas.
There was a stairs from the floor of the cage to the bananas. Among the monkeys that were both clever and nimble and liked bananas, chose to head up the ladder to catch a banana. Imagine his surprise when suddenly a fire hose washed down the cage, blasting all 3 monkeys over to one side. Cold and shivering, the 3 claws regrouped and thought about what had occurred. Monkeys do not own a genuine long memory, and after awhile another fighter thought about the batter and headed up the ladder. Same thing, a fire hose washed all 3 claws over to that the side of that the cage.
They picked themselves up, shook off themselves, and hoped that the sun would come out to heat up them. After another couple of hours, the 3rd monkey could not resist, and he went for it. Sure enough, same result, fire hose, wet monkeys, and yet another miserable mid-day of drying out. Lastly, all 3 monkeys were convinced that going for the batter has been a bad idea, and went on with that the rest of their lives. Then that the zookeeper drafted one of that the claws for another exhibition and replaced him with a brand new monkey. The new fighter came, looked up in the bananas, looked over at the crate and could not figure out why the other claws hadn't gone for the bananas.
He headed for the crate and got about 1 rung up when that the remaining experienced claws confronted him, dragged him to the ground and pummeled him into submission. He rapidly concluded that climbing the crate wasn't a wise idea. A week later, that the zookeeper replaced that the second monkey. Monkeys are somewhat single minded. The new monkey spied that the bananas, headed for that the ladder, and that the remaining two claws tackled him and pummeled him into submission. Lastly the 3rd monkey has been replaced and, you guessed it, the exact same thing occurred. So life went forth between the claws and after some time that the first of that the new claws was replaced with yet another monkey. Sure enough, the new man saw that the bananas, went for that the ladder, and his two peers tackled him and beat him into submission.
