The Sturgeon Moon: The next Full Moon occurs on August 7th, 2017 -

in #moon7 years ago (edited)

In the month of August, many Native-American tribes had referred to the often yellow-orange tinted full moon as the “Sturgeon Moon”.

Indian Tribes used calendars derived by the different moon phases.  For example in Month of August, they knew to focus their hunting towards fishing for the Sturgeon fish.

The Sturgeon fish species still continue to peak in population when the moon phase nears full, especially in The Great Lakes, and in Lake Champlain.

About the Sturgeon Fish Species:

"Sturgeon is the common name for the 27 species of fish belonging to the family Acipenseridae."

Wikipedia.org

"Sturgeons are long-lived, late-maturing fishes with distinctive characteristics, such as a heterocercal caudal fin similar to that of sharks, and an elongated spindle-like body that is smooth-skinned, scaleless and armored with 5 lateral rows of bony plates called scutes"

Thank you - I had never heard of that. Before I went veggie, I used to enjoy Beluga caviar, too.

No problem - My pleasure - I have always been intrigued by the moon, it's phases, cycles and its effects on people, the environment, and its involvement with the evolution of mankind - Some researched have stated that tribes and various groups of people have used the moon as a calendar for over 30,000 years! 30,000 years!! Insane!

Thanks for the love @rakiblove - One hand washes the other my friend
