2018 - Goals, Habits & Motivation

in #motivation7 years ago

Hi Steemians,

It’s 5 days into the new year and I haven’t yet written my new years resolutions down. I still haven’t thought about it that much yet, and it’s not too late. But for many of you that are well prepared, you would have done so in Novemeber 2017. Whichever case you are, your new years resolutions should be organised into 2 categories. Your goals and habits.

Goals

Your goals are where you want to be on 1st January 2019 and what you want to have achieved by then. You should organise these goals into yearly, half yearly, monthly weekly, daily and so on for long term and short term. To remember to keep working towards your goals you should :

  • Write them down on a piece of paper and stick it to a wall you stare at everyday
  • Create a vision board and keep it in viewing range
  • Set your goals as a reminder on your phone everyday
  • Write them out in the morning daily.

These simple steps will help you stay on track and focused throughout the year.

Habits

Your new years resolutions can also be new habits you want to form. These may include, going to the gym, drinking more water, quitting smoking, stop drinking alcohol, getting more sleep or waking up earlier. These little activities, if you stick to them for long enough they will become healthy habits, as it usually takes 21 days to form habits.

Motivation

Motivation is a big part of our lives and it’s a daily struggle to find motivation. The best way to find motivation is to find what works for you and what kinds of things you react to. There are many different types of people like ones that get motivated when there is a reward involved, or when there is a consequence when something isn't done or when they feel some emotion because they haven’t done something and are motivated to change it. For me, I get motivated because I want to do better. I get angry that I didn't do as well or didn't do anything to change. I feel angry at myself. Which is a motivation to strive to complete the tasks I set myself, to excel in my expectations. I think many of us consider this, “What if I had done this in the past? How much better would I have been?”. Now this is the wrong approach. We should instead focus on this “What if tomorrow I do this? How much better will I be?” This type of asking yourself, will reframe your thinking and you will be more encouraged, knowing where you will be if you just follow the path. I’m not saying it’s easy, there is a lot of hard work. But most of the work is done when you have the motivation to do it.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you guys have a great 2018.

We are almost half way through the month, hope you got to set your goals for 2018, thank you for the article.

Yes, I have set my goals now and I have limited them to specific and small goals so that I'm more focused on specific things that I want to achieve. Thanks for stopping by.
