Sine Curve Symphony

in #motivation7 years ago

Perhaps the most fundamental element of trigonometry is the sine curve. With a fixed maxima and minima at definite periodicities the sine curve is an infinite series of gradual ups and gradual downs. The beauty of the figure lies in both its simplicity and smoothness. However what really attracts you towards the curve is the eternity of the periodicity. No matter what specifications you use to design the sine wave, it will start from zero, peak to its maxima, then gradually slide down to its lowest and eventually come back to where it started.

Look around and you will realize soon enough that the sine curve is nature’s shape. The crest and trough of the waves, the waxing and waning of the moon, the brightness of the day, and even life? Can’t we also plot a curve for it? Everyone has had a happy day, an awesome week, a beautiful month, a purple patch, a fantastic year but the same everyone has also gone through an equally negative cycle. That’s life! We all have heard of a lot people pursuing a “happy life”. But the basic definition of happiness is the emotion felt by a human when he overcomes sorrow. So how can you expect to feel happiness when you are averse to feeling distress?

The truth is that happiness and sorrow are all but points of time in your sine wave. They too shall pass, and a new cycle will start. Life too has been designed in the same way. No one will be blessed with eternal happiness and neither will anyone be cursed with eternal sorrow. The secret is to accept each emotion as it comes and move on. The true riders of life already know this fact and the most resilient man will always sport the same smile come rain or sunshine. It’s always easy to roll down a slide but how you react when you land with a thud is what will define you. Similarly in the curve of life, the sail from your maxima to minima will be so gradual and smooth that you won’t realize what hit you till you are actually down there, but the real test is climbing back up.

In the sine curve that has been gifted to you, you cannot control the shape of your curve but what you can control is the size of your crest and trough. Now, the pessimist will say that the more passionately you enjoy your happiness the harder sorrow will pain you, but let’s see it optimistically, the darker the night the more beautiful is dawn. So next time you are blessed with happiness or hit with sorrow always remember

Maybe it’s a Sine 🙂
