Seek and you shall find – you look in the right place?

Many people believe that obtaining a promotion will solve their problems and bring them stability. A promotion is often viewed as a ticket to financial security, transforming worries about money into a comfortable lifestyle.

The chase for a better job, a significant bonus, or a pay raise is common. Many envision that these achievements will lead to a more carefree life without the burden of anxiety.

However, reality often tells a different story. After experiencing a new title or moving into a trendy vacation home, the feeling of dissatisfaction can creep back in.

New challenges and uncertainties arise, suggesting that the solutions we sought may not address the core issue. The real concern is not the job title or the financial windfall but rather a deeper sense of incompleteness in our lives.

People frequently think that their lack of happiness stems from external sources: not having enough money, a partner, or recognition. This misunderstanding can derail their progress. When searching for validation from outside themselves, they miss the chance to find true contentment within.

From my experiences and conversations with clients, it becomes clear that the peace of mind we seek cannot be bought with money, popularity, or superficial changes. Even achieving societal measures of success may not bring fulfillment. In some cases, these accomplishments create more stress rather than alleviating it.

Viktor E. Frankl’s words resonate strongly in this context: “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” His insight highlights that true change often begins within us.

I have noticed a concerning trend among those over 50 who fear they are overlooked in the job market. This age-related bias weighs heavily on their self-esteem and mental health.

When individuals believe that their age disqualifies them from opportunities, they can experience anger and burnout. These feelings can diminish their chances of being hired, as employers are less likely to bring on someone who feels defeated.

On the other hand, when individuals refuse to accept the idea that age is a barrier, they can foster a more positive outlook. Instead of feeling defeated by rejection, they begin to view each job application as a new adventure.

They may even explore other passions, like volunteering or creating a personal project to help others. This shift in perspective can inspire bravery and curiosity, allowing them to embrace new experiences.

When we stop relying on external factors, such as a boss or a partner, for our happiness, we unlock the potential to face reality without fear. This newfound confidence allows us to engage more fully with our lives, bringing more energy, creativity, and kindness to our daily interactions.

Embracing this mindset can fundamentally change how we approach challenges and opportunities.
