The more scared we are about our calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it.
— Stephen Pressfield

Why do our dreams scare us?

It's easy to spend time doing things we don't care about – just look at how much time we waste procrastinating, staring mindlessly at a screen, or engaged in equally unfulfilling activities. All the while, fantasising about what will happen when we finally get to where we want to be in life.

The only way to get there is through ACTION.

But our dreams can paralyse us. They're ambitious, overwhelming, and if you're anything like me, the fear of failure can prevent you from starting at all. If you don't know what you should be doing, find the thing that scares you the most – it's a good indicator that you're on the right track. There's no reason to be afraid of things we don't care about.

Fear is a challenge. An opportunity to grow, to throw yourself out of your comfort zone and see what happens.

Take public speaking, the prime example: sure, it may terrify you, but by following through, you not only grow as a person, you open the door to new opportunities that never would have presented themselves otherwise.

And is it really failure we're afraid of, or something else?

As Tony Robbins says, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us."

There are no limits to what we can accomplish; only limiting beliefs.

The thing I'm most scared of is writing. Publishing my work for others to see terrifies me, and I usually get so caught up in perfectionism that I never finish anything, let alone publish it. With the help of the supportive Steemit community, my goal is to publish everyday, and overcome that fear so I can get out of my own way and just write.

So, what are you scared of? And what are you going to do about it?
