REACTION VS RESPONSE
i was sitting at a restaurant one bright saturday morning, suddenly a cockroach flew from somewhere and landed on a lady's leg.
She started screaming out of fear and shock. With a trembling voice, she started jumping, desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.
Her reaction was contagious, as everyone around her was focused as to what was happening. she finally managed to push the cockroach to another girl sitting close to her. Now, it was the turn of this girl to continue the drama.
The waiter then came in to their rescue to their rescue. he stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on the girl's dress. When he was confident enough, he grabbed it then threw it out the window.
so then i began to ponder, was the cockroach responsible for their erratic behavior?
If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?
He handled it perfectly, without any nuisance. It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach that affected the ladies.
then it occurred to me that it is not the yelling of my father or my boss that disturbs me, but its my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their yelling that affected me.
the traffic jam on the road does not disturb me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that affects me.
Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always intellectual
That's wonderful write up.upvoted
