Facing My Fear
Fear is a funny thing. I find it both ironic and sad that the majority of the things that cause us the most distress will never happen. The truth about fear is that it is one of nature's greatest gifts to us. If it were not for fear, humans would have been whipped out long ago. Without fear, many of us would have walked right into the mouth of many tigers, many would have eaten berries we knew to be poisonous, many would have handled venomous snakes and been bitten, many would have jumped off cliffs out of curiosity, and those who remained would have done something silly that would have lead to their death.
Fear keeps as from ending up as tiger food, and as useful as fear is, it can also be harmful. If you allow it, fear can kill your potential. If you want to be, do or have something you have not been, done or had, you must do what you have never done. Fear can keep you from being, doing and having what you want because, if you allow it, it will keep you from taking the actions that you need to take. You cannot be, do or have what you want, if you do not do all that is necessary to make that which you want your new reality.
You have more than enough potential to create the success that you want for yourself. Be honest with yourself, have you achieved all that you know you are capable of achieving? Have you unleashed your full potential in the attainment of your goals? If you know you are capable of a whole lot more than you have achieved, you are not alone. Most people, myself included, do not push themselves to the limits of their ability. Why is that?
The single thing that kills of most of your potential is fear. To be more specific, it is not the fear itself that causes your potential to go unused, but rather it is when you choose to allow fear to make your choices for you that causes this. Nothing of note ever came from a comfort zone, nothing at all. It is only when you are uncomfortable that you can begin to create some magic. It is only when you stare fear dead in the eyes and venture out into the great unknown that you can begin to taste the raw power you have within you, and the turbulence of your potential shall make its presence known to all who witness the inevitable success you will build for yourself.
To become successful, you need to grow into the kind of person who has what you want. If you want a million dollars, you have to become the kind of person who has a million dollars. You need to have the right habits, take the right actions, have the right beliefs and make the right choices based upon these beliefs. If you want anything in your life, the perfect relationship, great health, a sense of fulfillment and life satisfaction, the same is true. To grow into the kind of person who has the things you want to have, you need to venture outside of what is comfortable for you, you need let fear be your friend.
They say that the treasure you seek can be found in the cave you fear to under. Let fear be your guide. Let it point you in the direction of growth. Let it point you in the direction of success.
As you may know, I am doing a motivation experiment. One of the tasks I need to complete before the end of July is to face my fear of needles. I have wanted to donate blood for several years, but one thing has kept me from doing that. My fear of needles. I will let you know as soon as I have done it, and it will be very soon, so keep an eye out for that one.
What fear do you want to get over?
