AMA Lucas Oil Motocross Round 4 High Point 2017 Race revew

in #motocross7 years ago

This years outdoor season is one of the best in recent history! After the week 'holiday' we return to action with the 2017 Lucas oil Pro Motocross Round 4 at High point! This track in Southern Pennsylvania is a complete beast when it comes to riding and to beauty, it got rough and there was some serious bar banging with it all to play for! This is anyones championship this year.

250 Class Race 1

Jeremy Martin flew out the gate to grab the first holeshot of the day on his Geico honda and held a decent lead thoughout the opening laps of the first 250 race. The two time 250 champ held off a packed bunch of riders but the pack were coming in fast and furious. Plessinger managed to work his Yamaha though into second place somehow gapping Ozborne the points leader in third leaving Hapshire, Cianciarulo, Cantrell and Savatgy all fighting for top ten spots. The faster riders became clear as Martin, Plessinger and Ozborne began to move awawy from the rest of the field.

Ozborne was all over Plessenger who turned his attention to fending off #16 to try and hold seccond place which allowed Martin to extend his lead. Ozborne bode his time and waited for the time to pull ythe trigger grabbing a handfull on the downhil rollers and getting past Plessinger. Once he was past the defensive Yamaha he was off and soon was catching Martin within a few laps! The two battled it out for the next two laps each having good and bad spots but ozborne, showing exactly the same speed through the downhill rollers shot past Martin for the lead. This proved to be the deciding move and carried him on to the win.

250 Class Race 2

Seems the Martin brothers have some kind of family secret sauce they are hiding as Alex Martin grabbed the holeshot for race two! Jeremy Martin came round just behind Plessinger and forkner with close with him. Martin made short work of Plessinger and then set his sights on catching his bother for the lead. He made a great charge and he finally made a pass stick mid way though the race which saw him power on to take the win, making it 2-1 for the Honda rider.

Meanwhile back in the pack, Ozborne was battling a lackluster start and fighting his way through. The winner of moto one pushed through making some great passes and suddenly by the final few laps had worked his way up to Plessinger and Alex Martin. He found a way around both riders before being hit in the goggles with a rock which forced him to ditch them while having to deal with a charging Alex Martin. The move snapped off the visor on his helmet which left him open to issues with his unprotected face and eyes. Luckily for Ozborne he managed to keep Plessinger and Martin at bay to grab the second spot. Plessinger finaly managed to have a consistant day and keep it on 2 wheels and was rewarded with 3-3.

450 Class Race 1

What a year Josh Grant is having! The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider flew out of the gate and grabbed the first 450 holeshot with his team mate Eli Tomac right behind. Tomac, so dominant when getting a good start somehow managed to tuck the front end on an incline and went down. It took him a while to get himself picked up and back on the bike which left him in last place. Meanwhile Grant was solidifying his lead against Cragi, Ferris and Bagget. Ferris, who is a one-off entrant to the race suddely got past Grant for the lead and Bagget took his chance to follow him through. Ferris could not contend with the charging KTM and Bagget launched past to continue on to the win, with Ferris taking second and Grant grabbing third.

Tomac meanwhile had been putting in a shift working his way back from last place and by mid race he was back to 12th. Musquin, our current points leader had come into the weekend with a torn menicus in his knee and you could see something wasn't right in his riding. He was a shadow of the rider we have seen so far this season, but he knuckled on and managed to salvage some points with 16th place.

Late in the race a battle broke out between Anderson, Bogle, Tickle and Web. Anderson managed to catch up to bogle for a spot in the top five but managed to add another rider to his enemy list by running into Bogle... The Suzuki rider seemed pretty angry, kicking out at the Husky rider but failing to make contact it seemed.

Bad news also came from the Honda camp as even after a strong start from Craig he was unable to finish. The early return to racing after his hand fracture seems to have taken its toll and he sat out moto 2 also.

450 Class Race 2

Tickle grabbed the last holeshot of the day on his RCH Yoshimura Suzuki with Jason Anderson pushing his way though behind. In typical Anderson style he managed to make a pass right at the bottom of a huge jump with Eli Tomac following him into second just as they completed the first lap. Yomac had some fire in his belly it seemed after he had thrown away the lead in the first moto and was ready when Anderson made a mistake and shot past him for the lead. Tomac then set about gapping everyone as is his usual style when left unchecked up front.

Bagget, recovering from a bad start was doing his best to come through the pack and managed to work his way up to 5th. With him and Tomac putting in the fastest laps of the race it was building to be an epic shootout. He pushed on and managed to get past Tickle and Anderson which saw him in 2nd place ready to attack Tomac. He managed to get the gap down but he must've realised he would take the overall with 2nd place and seemed to ease off towards the end of the race leaving Tomac to take first without issues.

Tomac's mistake in race 1 and Musquins damage limitation ride meant that Bagget is our new points leader and time will tell if the curse of the red plate claims another rider this season!
