Beartooth Mountains
#mountainmonday @keithboone
My #mountainmonday post includes just a couple of the hundreds of photos I took while traveling the Beartooth Highway in Northwest Wyoming near the Montana border. It is the most dramatic and breathtaking route into Yellowstone National Park.
The Beartooth Highway is a 68-mile travel corridor, beginning just south of Red Lodge, Montana and ending near the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone National Park and Cooke City. Due to all the hairpin turns and switchbacks it takes approximately 3 hours (depending on how often you stop for photos) It took us all day!
The road rises to 10, 947 feet at Beartooth Pass in Wyoming well above the tree line. The views are breathtaking, but make sure you have a windbreaker to put on! It was cold up there and the wind was ferocious.
The highway is open May to October but can be closed anytime there is bad weather.

Beautiful mountains. Makes me want to be in the mountains right now! Well I can start planning for next summer trips :) Really like the rich blue alpine lakes
Where do you want to go next summer? Will you explore new areas?
Yeah short trips to Northern California is goal.

With each of your posts I fall in love more. These photos are really beautiful. What a privilege you have had in being able to visit all these beautiful places that nature has given us😍😍😍
I do know how lucky I am! And I was particularly blessed that Jim loved to go and see all these places as much as I did, We had such fun together!
Maybe those memories sometimes hurt because he is not there anymore. But they were so fortunate to create all those beautiful memories together. It must be great to find someone who complements your life❤
We were good together. So many great memories!
I know! I know your story, my mom was so happy with my dad and suddenly it was not anymore... You and she are very strong women And I admire them so much!❤🌹
Jim was sick for many months before he died and unable to leave his bed. We had a long time to say our goodbyes.
My dad suffered 5 heart attacks and we knew that the end would come at any time. But when the day arrived, it took us by surprise because it was really good
I am glad it was good.
I am glad it was good. Even when you expect it it is still a shock.
Nice landscapes! I especially like that super pointy mountain. Is that climbable? I bet the view from up top would be spectacular. It looks pretty dry out that way, too; almost like the badlands.
Not dry, just so high it is above the tree line. Not much can grow in those harsh conditions that high up. Much of the moisture comes in the form of snow.
They do climb out that... But you need to watch for grizzly bears when you hike back in. I remember seeing that a Minnesota hiker was attacked by a bear in September.
@janton has an interesting post today that mentions Mankato and I thought of you. https://steemit.com/history/@janton/cole-plans-one-more-big-score
Thanks. Yeah, the jamers Younger band went through these parts and caused a little trouble. They still do reenactments in Northfield, MN, where a botched robbery led to a group of Minnesotans hunting them down half way across the country and basically ending them.
Howdy melinda010100! wow what amazing scenery and photos! Looking at all those makes me want to travel!
It is a big wide wonderful world!
lol. Yes Ma'am it sure is and I've seen very little of it! lol. in person anyway.
I've only missed a couple of the states, Alaska Hawaii Washington and Oregon. But I've been in 20 countries!
howdy Melinda...wow..20 countries....I'm surprised that you missed Hawaii, what happened there?
Most of my frequent flyer miles were on British Airways, so I went where they took me! It was too expensive for go to Hawaii when there were so many deals offered to fly to Europe. My kids are going to Hawaii in the spring.
oh I see..how interesting..did you get your house guest today?
Tomorrow is the estimated time of arrival
Think I would love it. Your trip was in July or August I'm guessing. Beautiful place even with bears. That's where I learned no food in the tent whil camping.
Love
That works with black bears. Although I once had a black bear come right up to the campfire and take the pot of food I was cooking! My worry with grizzlies is that they think I am the food in the tent!
Thank you so much for all you do.
Love
