A must-do in Bali: Sunrise trekking at Mount Batur

Picture of Mount Batur

Traveling is my passion, and there is nothing more I like to do than to share the beautiful things I experience while moving myself on planet Earth. Last summer I went for a short vacation to Bali, and unlike other visits, I felt like doing more than lying on the beach all day. As I was browsing on Instagram I saw some incredible pictures of a sunrise at Mount Batur and I thought "I must see this with my own two eyes!". So, I immediately texted my boyfriend - with whom I've been having a long distance relationship since I've been working in Thailand for the past 9 months - and told him that we MUST do this when we'll be reunited in Bali.

A couple of weeks later we finally met again, yay! After my arrival we had an easy day, since we immediately planned the hike the night after. At 2 am a car picked us up after which we picked up some other friends and continued to the Kintamani area. After a 2 hour drive we arrived at Mount Batur, which is also an active volcano. When we stepped out of the car, around 4 am, it was super dark but the incredible star show up in the sky was lighting up the whole scene. It was incredible to see such a clear sky and all the bright stars. We even saw 2 falling stars! I never thought I'd be seeing that and I must say that it really felt surreal! Unfortunately it's very difficult to capture stars on an iPhone so I don't have pictures of it :(.

We met our guides and were off to hike up the mountain! I asked our lovely guides how long it takes to get to the top and she told me that on average people take 2,5 hours to get there. My very competitive self immediately told her we had to be quicker than that and off we went! As I said before, it was super dark so we had to carry our flashlights with us. I'll put a link to my vlog below this post to show you the entire journey, but I'll continue with the written part first! So, off we went, and I must tell you that this is a great hike for beginners. Of course it might be a bit difficult if you do not exercise at all, but even then it should not be too hard - just take it slow. Oh, another important thing is what to wear. It's extremely cold at the top so make sure you bring a sweater/vest with you, but also make sure that you wear a top/t-shirt that you'd wear when going out for a run, because you'll be sweating your ass off during the hike.

Eventually, after 2(!) hours we made it at the top! Ah, I must insert some pictures now because words can't describe the beauty of our view. I must say that even the pictures don't do justice, you should just really go and see for yourself!

How beautiful is this?!

Lots of monkeys here, they are peaceful but will steal a banana or chocolate bar out of your hand Lol. You can also see some steam from the volcano in the back.

The Batur lake has some nice restaurants when you walk further down

Hope you enjoyed this post. As promised I'll put the link to my Youtube vlog here. Should you have more questions on Mount Batur or Bali please leave me a comment!
