The film focuses on the private life of Stephan Hawking's ex-wife, Jane Hawking. Although this situation has been criticized by many followers and critics, the strength of the cast of the film is largely lacking.

Although the biographical films are not much liked by the audience, The Theory of Everything's unique narration, transition effects, hearty dialogues, and of course Eddie Redmayne, who portrays the film's main protagonist, made her an Oscar-winning performance, further distinguishing this film from its peers.
