My Molly's Game Movie Review
Hey everybody, first off, would anyone be interested in watching my reviews on DTube as opposed to reading them? Recording more video is something I want to experiment with, so any feedback would be great.
Molly's Game is one of my favorite movies I have seen so far this year! I am glad it got all of the recognition it did from film festivals world wide, as well as a Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. A little background on the movie without getting into Spoilers , Molly Bloom was a contender for the USA Olympic Skiing Team which contributes to her strained relationship with her father. The Skiing doesn't workout due to Spoiler so Molly decides to take a year off before law school and move to LA, where she is a bottle service waitress. She meets and eventually works for an unsuccessful businessman who also runs underground poker games. She eventually takes over running the game and later it gets tough for the game, and i'm not really going to tell you anymore because this is where the movie gets great.
The things that made me fall in love with the movie, right off the bat is the Screenplay, the writing was believable, there aren't any fluffer scenes, every scene has its purpose. Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, and Kevin Costner all have scenes that allow them to show their acting chops. Jessica Chastain and Kevin Costner have a scene near the end of the movie that I would consider my favorite scene in the movie. If you've seen the movie, let me know if you agree!
Like I just stated, the acting was top notch. Because Aaron Sorkin is known for writing quick sentences dense with information, it doesn't give the actors an opportunity to become boring, and it really sets and keeps the pace of the movie. Molly's character arc throughout the film is large but believable.
All in all, I love the movie, there wasn't really anything that negative the can come to mind and
so I will definitely watch it a couple more times throughout the years. I'd love to hear your review if you have seen it or get a chance to watch it!
P.S. I hate judging anything on an arbitrary number out of 5 or 10. So this gets 2 thumbs up.
