Castlevania season 3 - One of the best animated series out there

The truth is I don't watch too many animations, but from time to time I do happen to enjoy some of them. The DC animated movies are one example, and the Castlevania series from Netflix is another one.

At the beginning of this month, Netflix released the third season of its Castlevania animated series, I will write a few small spoilers about the previous 2 seasons to provide a context about the current story. Castlevania was in the beginning about Dracula, something happens that causes Dracula to develop a deep hatred for humanity, to the point he even wanted to extinguish the entire human race.

Obviously, Dracula doesn't succeed and at the end of season 2 this threat is totally neutralized. So, without Dracula, I was wondering what direction would Castlevania take to keep the show interesting. To my surprise, this season was my favorite one so far.

This time, 2 important ex allies of Dracula are operating on their own and there is a new massive new threat hiding in plain sight. This season really expands the Castlevania's universe, it shows a sort of wormhole that allows access to other dimensions, including a dark upside-down dimension and hell itself, this will probably be properly explored next season.

It is clear there has to be at least another season of this show because there are several plots that aren't done yet, such as Carmilla's ambitious plan (a powerful female vampire) to extend her power, and Alucard (Dracula's son) changing mentality as a result of going through the events of this season.

The quality of the animations is absolutely top-notch. Even better than the animations in the movie Constantine: City of Demons that I watched recently. The epic battle in episode 9 is easily one of the best animated battles I have ever seen. Besides, the story was very entertaining and they managed to keep the show alive introducing important new characters and villains. This season left me very satisfied and wanting for more of Castlevania.

If you enjoy animations in general this show is a must-watch. There are vampires, monsters from hell as well as other dimensions, warriors and magic people. There are also some weird priests that are key to this season's story. This is, for me, the best animated series out there.

The best

  • Great animations.
  • Interesting story, probably the best season of the 3 and Dracula wasn't even included.
  • It pretty much guarantees at least another season.

The worst

  • The beginning of the season is slow. It speeds up fast in the last episodes.
