Poetic Film Review: 22 Jump Street (2014)

In Hollywood's realm, a promise kept,
A sequel born, with humor slept,
21 Jump Street's finale did proclaim,
A college bound adventure, with laughter's name.

Schmidt and Jenko, detectives young and bold,
Reprise their roles, with comedy to unfold,
A new assignment, with "Whyphy" to pursue,
A synthetic drug, with danger to imbue.

The Ghost, a villain, with merchandise to spare,
A botched sting operation, with Jump Street to share,
Captain Dickson's guidance, with Ice Cube's mighty roar,
Sets the stage for action, and humor galore.

Jenko bonds with jocks, a football star to be,
Schmidt finds romance, with Maya's artistry,
Amber Stevens shines, with a gentle, loving light,
A brief respite, from the action's frantic night.

Self-referential humor, breaks the fourth wall's might,
A "meta" quality, that acknowledges the lack of light,
Originality scarce, the film's producers confess,
Yet, entertainment abounds, with humor's finesse.

Despite the efforts, the concept remains the same,
A rehash of themes, with novelty's flame,
New characters emerge, with Wyatt Russell's charm,
But the humor's quality, does slightly disarm.

Pacing issues persist, with a runtime that does stray,
The film's rhythm falters, but momentum holds sway,
Hill and Tatum shine, with chemistry so bright,
Their "buddy-buddy" dynamic, a beacon in the night.

The end credits' sequence, a hilarious, self-parodic treat,
Potential sequels, that never were to meet,
A comedic tone, that reinforces the film's delight,
A modest entertainment, for a summer's night.

So let us approach, with expectations low,
And find the humor, in 22 Jump Street's show,
For though it may not be, a masterpiece to behold,
It remains an enjoyable ride, with laughter to unfold.
