Poetic Film Review: Captain America: Civil War (2016)

In realms of Marvel, where heroes roam,
A year of triumph, 2016, made its home.
The cinematic universe, a dominance to claim,
Left DC's Extended Universe in its shame.

Batman v Superman, a flagship to abide,
Earned less than Captain America, side by side.
A feat more impressive, given the test,
A solo sequel, not a top-tier quest.

The Russo brothers, with vision to impart,
Crafted a tale, both ambitious and a work of art.
A mini-Avengers, with ensemble cast,
To counter DC's duo, and make the story last.

The villain, a challenge, to balance and to weigh,
Below Thanos' level, yet still to convey.
The Civil War series, a solution to unfold,
Forced heroes to clash, with differences to mold.

The plot, a consequence, of Age of Ultron's might,
Public opinion turned, against superheroes in sight.
Regulation and control, a plan to devise,
Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, with differing views to realize.

Their disagreement, a spark, to ignite the flame,
A bombing in Vienna, and a king's tragic claim.
T'Challa, with powers, to avenge his father's death,
And Rogers, to protect, his old war buddy's breath.

A confrontation, brutal and intense, to ensue,
Among friends and allies, with loyalty to subdue.
The issue, a familiar one, with characters to preserve,
For future sequels, and franchises to deserve.

The Russo brothers, with balance to maintain,
Avoided darkness, and gloom, to bring a lighter reign.
Action scenes, a highlight, to thrill and to delight,
Aided by a cast, with enthusiasm, to shine so bright.

Yet, the script, a weakness, to detract from the tale,
With characters, and plot, not fully to prevail.
Rogers' character, a contradiction, to abide,
And Stark's sudden shift, a flaw, to deride.

The finale, melodramatic, to conclude the test,
A drawback, to an otherwise, enjoyable quest.
But fans of Marvel, and casual viewers, to adore,
The universe, and its heroes, forever to explore.
