Poetic Film Review: Devour (2005)
In realms of fast-changing world, we tread,
Where myths and legends adapt to new tech instead,
A legend of hidden messages, once popular belief,
Reimagined in film, a plot to relieve.
Devour, the film, with Jensen Ackles in lead,
A computer science student, with mysteries to be read,
A game called 'Pathway', a world to explore,
But soon it's clear, it's more than just a score.
Conrad and Dakota, friends entangled in crime,
Murders brutal, visions of the divine,
Jake questions the force, demonic entities near,
As the truth unfolds, the terror draws near.
Despite the budget modest, the script was strong,
Intriguing characters, subplots to prolong,
The ending, a standout, a rare delight,
A good conclusion, that could've saved the night.
Alas, the director, the weakest link, it seems,
Editing hurried, scenes unresolved, and dreams,
The cast delivers, performances solid and bright,
Dominique Swain shines, but her role, too short and light.
Vancouver settings, a boon and a bane,
Comparisons to The X-Files, a missed chance to reign,
Devour, a film with potential, but sadly flawed,
A tale of terror, that leaves us unimpressed and dazed.
