Poetic Film Review: Possession (2002)

In shadows cast by Kubrick's reign,
LaBute's misanthropy takes the stage,
With Possession, a tale of love and pain,
Unfolding through letters on a page.

A scholar seeks the truth of old,
In letters lost, a scandal untold,
Victorian poets, secrets unfold,
In parallel tales, their love is bold.

From London's streets to countryside,
Michell and Bailey seek to find,
The passion that they cannot hide,
In history's echoes intertwined.

But LaBute's touch, a different tone,
A departure from his usual moan,
British landscapes, talent shown,
In melodrama's gentle zone.

Possession may not leave a mark,
But it weaves a tale both light and dark,
Of love and longing, secrets stark,
A film that lingers in the heart.
