Poetic Film Review: Ultraviolet (2006)
In a world of dystopian dreams,
Where science went awry, and doom it seems,
A virus spread, a new breed was born,
The hemophags, with powers, forever torn.
A government's experiment, a catastrophic blight,
A pandemic spread, a nightmarish sight,
The healthy and weak, the infected and strong,
Faced the Ministry's wrath, in a never-ending song.
Violet, a fighter, with skills so fine,
Led the resistance, against the Ministry's design,
Her mission was clear, to destroy the weapon so grand,
But secrets unveiled, a young boy at hand.
Six, the enigmatic boy, with origins unknown,
Linked to the Vice Cardinal, in a twisted throne,
A battle ensued, between good and evil's might,
In a world of contrasts, in perpetual flight.
Wimmer's vision, bold and unique,
A comic book style, anime's sleek,
Vivid colours, hyper-violence, and action so bold,
Milla Jovovich, an action heroine, with a story to be told.
But flaws emerged, in the script's construction,
Plot holes and inconsistencies, a world's disconnection,
Jovovich, competent but generic too,
A villainous Chinlund, and Fichtner's dignified few.
Critics savaged, the film flopped at the box office,
Yet, a boldness remained, that found favour with some choice,
In Japan, a sequel arose, a testament to its allure,
A flawed yet fascinating film, with a vision to endure.
So here we find, a story of dystopia's might,
A world of contrasts, in perpetual fight,
A testament to the human spirit, to resist and to strive,
In a world of chaos, where the boundaries of cinema survive.
