Poetic Television Review: Meadowlands (The Sopranos, S1X04, 1999)
In Jersey's shadow, where mobsters roam,
A tale of Tony Soprano, a complex home.
A dream sequence starts, with desire and fear,
Dr. Melfi, a therapist, or so it would appear.
Vin Makazian, a detective, with motives astray,
Misinterprets Tony's intentions, in a violent way.
A beating takes place, with Randall Curtin the prey,
As Tony's secrets threaten to spill out and sway.
Tony Junior's subplot unfolds, with conflict and might,
A schoolyard brawl, with humiliation in sight.
Meadow's research reveals the truth about their name,
And the power that comes with it, a heavy weight to claim.
The main plot thickens, like a sauce on the rise,
With Brendan Filone's murder, and Chris's angry cries.
Mikey Palmice, a made man, untouchable and cold,
Tony bars Chris from revenge, as the tension unfold.
Jackie Aprile Sr.'s passing leaves a void and strife,
A struggle for succession, between Tony and Uncle Junior's life.
Dr. Melfi's words of wisdom guide Tony to yield,
To Uncle Junior's demands, in exchange for lucrative deals to seal.
The episode stumbles at times, with weak beginnings and flaws,
Makazian's mishandling of Dr. Melfi left unexplained in laws.
But the finale redeems it all, at Jackie's funeral so grand,
Tony manipulates the old guard with skillful hand.
As his son looks on with pride and newfound respect too,
The Sopranos' world is complex web of loyalty true blue.
