Pacific Rim: Uprising... away from Del Toro and closer to Bay

Recently watched Pacific Rim: Uprising and as a feared in the trailers, it looked more like a Transformer's spinoff than a sequel for Pacific Rim.

This movie is not just heavily and mostly relying on CGI and special effects, but even borrowed bad acting and slow motion shots from any Michael Bay movie (except for The Rock which had a great cast). At lest it had little product placement (just Oreo and some other things), but it was made to appeal the chinese box office rather than making a good movie.

The original had a good chemistry between Marshall Pentecost, Mako and Raleigh while the sequel used Pentecost just as a memory, Mako as tool to get the protagonist pumped with revenge and barely mentioned Raleigh who was the hero during the last war.

Not saying is a bad movie, but it did not feel like a sequel to a movie that could easily become a cult classic. If you don't have Del Toro, it is best to reboot the franchise or just let it be an anecodote of a movie that was not made. The premise was really weird with Dr. Newton hooked on kaiju's brain and therefore reopening the rift to let them destroy Earth... nonsense!!
