4DX Cinema Experience
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing watching a movie at a 4DX Cinema.
A 4DX Cinema is where the cinema and seats incorporate elements, in giving you a more realistic experience whilst watching the movie.
I watched the new Maze Runner movie and although the movie was not too great, the 4DX experienced made it much more enjoyable.
Coming into the cinema I didn't know what to expect. I snuck in a coffee from Starbucks as hot drinks are not allowed. When the movie started I realised there was a good reason for hot drinks not being allowed, as it was like being on a roller coaster ride with a coffee haha!
The seats vibrated and shook and lifted up and down, during heavy action scenes. Wind and air blew past my face during high speed chases or when bullets were shot. I didn't enjoy too much the scent and smell that gets sprayed out. There were 2 scents which I noticed got used, one was quite pleasant like a lady's perfume and the other wasn't great which smelt a bit like a burnt firecracker.
All in all it was great to have experienced watching a movie in a 4DX cinema. I definitely recommend everyone tries it out at least once for the experience. However for it being so pricey it's not worth doing every time. I also don't see the 4DX experience saving the cinemas in the long run... nevertheless definitely worth experiencing!
I have been to a few 4DX cinemas, most of them were run down and the screens were terrifying due to discolouration. I honestly prefer VR as the future of cinema. What do you think?
Agreed... probably home VR too. Cinemas are also silly in continuing to make it so expensive. This is not gonna stop people from either pirating movies or streaming them from home. Also projectors and flat screens are just gonna become cheaper and cheaper and incentivise people to just watch from home instead.
The thing about Cinemas is that they are still barely breaking even as is. If they only sold tickets, they would always be at a loss! Hence why their concessions are at 1000% markups (Yes, popcorn isn't expensive at all).
I think that projectors are slowly phasing out from common use as most people would have TV screens that would fit the size they want at a cheaper price haha.
I think the cinema will still have to survive as should everyone only watch from home, it would become too easy to pirate movies. Switching movie releases to only straight to netflix etc might kill of a significant market share of customers to piracy.
I have actually met a guy at a documentary writing course who is planning on doing animal documentaries with VR. So, you could one day be sitting in the middle of the savannah among a pride of lions without worrying about the lions biting your loins off!
Amazing tech!
This appeals more @tadstrange
VR? Or Home Cinema?
VR
I haven't been to a 4DX film yet, not sure about the burnt firecracker smell, haha, but sounds like it's worth a try at least.
One for you and the bae to try! perhaps in Thailand!
For sure!
Do they have 4D cinemas in Thailand ?
Who needs the cinema's there when you have the beach!
Sounds like you had a lot of fun @leelektrik
It was riveting haha!
This doesn't appeal to me at all @leelektrik - just thinking about it makes me nauseous
Worth trying at least once!
