VOICES FROM THE MOUNTAINS Review--25 SBD contest for the best MSPWAVES Radio Reviews

in #mspwavesreview7 years ago (edited)

Today I will be reviewing the show VOICES FROM THE MOUNTAINS hosted by @intuitivejacob, @lpfaust, and @falseyedols. Their show airs UTC 3:00 am - 5:00 am which is 10pm-12am CST in USA (where I live). I always listen through Discord PAL/MSP server because I prefer being able to listen and chat at the same time. They have a really interesting show and I enjoy tuning in to almost every one of them. You can learn more about them on http://mspwaves.com/show/voices-from-the-mountains/ which has short little biographies.

As mentioned in the first review I did (however the contest bounty has increased now to 35 sbd. see @pennsif's blog for updates on the contest)...

These mspwaves radio reviews are being encouraged by @pennsif to raise awareness and exposure for the shows on mspwaves. To do so, he is a offering an amazing contest with a prize of up to 25 SBD for the best reviews on the current shows. Here are more details on his contest. If you are a regular, post up reviews! If you have not listened before, tune in sometime! Don't be a stranger. ( :

There are many really great shows. A little bit of something for everyone. You can find the information on all of the shows and showtimes on www.mspwaves.com. For higher quality audio you should consider logging on through the website to listen. Anyone can listen there, whether or not they are a Discord user. You do have to be a Discord user in order to chat, though. I highly recommend that because the chatroom is part of the great experience. Meme, gifs, and emojis make the real time interaction top notch, albeit usually not high class. hehe

I like listening to VOICE FROM THE MOUNTAINS because they have an eclectic mix of music and have a type of banter that reminds me very much of dear friends of mine. They are big fans of @emilystrange, usually playing at least one of her songs each week. Unfortunately she isn't active on steemit right now. They played one of their favorites, mine too, I believe called "Conscious", but I don't think it's been released yet. If I remember right, they say she is still in the studio working on releasing her next album.

Each week they play some @elimence, as well. Sometimes he joins them in the studio during the show to get in on the bantering. He's an incredibly talented hiphop producer, creating his own beats and flowing over them with precision. I really enjoy his smooth, thought-provoking, natural sounding lyrics, combined with the way he delivers it. It ain't that rap you hear on pop rap stations. It's very much true to the underground hiphop, where rapping is a skill. Where it is an art. Where it has meaning.

@lpfaust makes these absolutely hilarious commercials they throw in periodically throughout the show. My favorite is the one where he impersonates Bob Ross easing the minds of the restless crypto trader. I would quote some of it, but he's going to make some merch and trademark phrases (they are THAT good). His wife @amrauthor comes to hang out everyshow. Last week was a birthday celebration at that their house where they busted out the homemade whisky, got crunk, and live broadcasted. hahaha It was a pawty last Friday, for sure.

@falseyedols makes great instrumental tracks that are ripe for the rapping. He has collaborated with many different artists. He also hosts a steemit contest called Cypher Challenge. Be sure to click his name and click on those blogs to see more about what that is so hopefully you can participate in it. In addition to that, he is a curator for You Got Snekked organized by @poeticsnake and he is also linked up with @thenewalchemists. He likes to diss Waffle House even though he knows full well that it's the best place to eat pecan waffles at 3 am (even if you get a few cigarette ashes in the hashbrowns).

@intuitivejacob probably reminds me the most of one of my great friends from my twenties. We are still friends but I don't hang out much with them anymore. On the show he mostly discusses random thoughts, flowing along with the other hosts. However, astrology is a big personal focus, which every Monday he puts out a weekly reading about what the stars and planets mean in relation to the world. It's not for everyone, but I enjoy that stuff.

So, now that the introductions about who is behind the show are over, I will get into this past show...(Because, let's face it, if you don't know much about them or their show, are you going to be as interested in tuning in? Probably not)

Often I am able to tune in right as the show is starting at 10pm my time. I was about half an hour late this week. When I joined, I got a quick hello with @falseyedols saying "there she is". Like I said, I listen a lot. Even though @r0nd0n changed my PAL discord name to "srs fakenewser" they weren't foiled. It isn't just a great show with good content, or that they remind me of people in my personal life I am fond of, but also that they make you feel welcomed and appreciated when you come listen and interact in the chat room. They are very prompt to say hello and respond to people leaving comments. They thank you for a joining them on the show. They say good bye to you when you need to log off. They answer your questions or comments both on air and in the chat room. So, in that regard, it feels a bit like the 2018 internet radio version of CHEERS. If you are too young to know what that is, go get you some education.

(As an aside, @r0nd0n is the clown behind MSPwaves. The Joker in charge of the smooth operation of the shows. He likes to play jokes. Hence the name changes. He hosts his own show called Freeze Peach radio show on Mondays my time 5-8 cst, then usually runs on for hours afterward playing dark country. The pirate shows are not official shows. They are just like if you were on a conference call with a bunch of friends listening to your personal song collection. My favorite song he plays is St Claire's Sound or as I call it, the woah oh song. )

Sorry, back to the review...

I tuned in at the end of what was apparently a serious discussion on crytopcurrency. That was followed up by the prerecording of intuitivejacob talking about all these different planets being in retrograde, I think it was mercury, saturn, and uranus. I will refrain from jokes about uranus because I'm an adult. Uranus. After that, lpfaust went in to play some familiar tunes by falseyedols, elimence, emilystrange, and a few of his own productions, or commercials, which are funny af. They played some tunes from @hostioso from Argentina which were hawt. In the discord audience was @clayboyn, @crimsonclad, @meno, @littlescribe, @grayland, @thomasrobertagent who all helped the mood by dropping the best gifs and memes pulled somewhere from the obscurity of the interwebs. (sorry I don't know all of the steemit handles so I'm just giving their discord names.

They also did (and do every week) a section which highlights each of their favorite local businesses for the Colorado Springs area. Which is super cool, I think. If I ever make it, I'll be sure to check out some of those places. @amrauthor reminded them to talk about an upcoming event. They are going to be speaking on a panel at the Denver ComicCon panel discussing crytocurrency and STEEMIT. How cool is that? Super cool. That's how cool. Then after the official show was over, lpfaust went to pirate to play a variety of his favorite metal and punk tracks.

The main criticism for this show I have was the serious tone. I enjoyed the serious tone and what I heard, but I just wasn't able to follow a lot of it. Like I said earlier, I enjoy the astrology stuff. It went a lot over my head, though because I know so little and jacob got very detailed. What I got out of it was that being a Sagittarius is going to be working in my favor Monday. Or something. The end of the cryptocurrency was the same for me. I came up with a new phrase last night. "You're talking crypto to me" instead of "You're talking gibberish to me". lol

All in all, it was another fabulous show. Until next week...

Excellent review!
As I recall, last week, they were all getting a bit sloshed due to the birthday, and by the end of the show, there was some slurring of words... :-)

Slurring of words? I thought we were quite coherent last week. The week prior while celebrating a birthday might have been a bit over the edge. It’s the sacrifices we make to keep you all entertained.

Yes, the birthday week was the one where Jacob was slurring his words by the end of the show. :-)

@phedizzle thanks for the great review of the show and thanks for waiting for the Merch line to come out before letting the cat out of the proverbial bag. Glad to have you as a regular listener.

Take my upvote, please.

Haha. Np. I tried to do a little promo without too much info because you gotta get it going so someone else doesn't hack your ideas. Lol I'd like to be on the coffee mug waiting list. Chop.chop.

Thank you for entering the MSP Waves Radio Show Reviews Contest.

That's an interesting review.

You have received a reward of 2.5 SBD for your review.
