UGANDAN POELITICS
FOR THE LOVE OF POETRY
My lovely legislator
Mr.....Oh, am sorry Sir
Honourable.....
Being that you're with people
Of importance just as you are
I seek permission from you Sir,Mr.Honourable
To give me a hearing, with your fellow Honourables
For am indebted to you for much work
To my well-being
I want to utter a thank you!
Mr.Honourable.Sir
How can I forget Sir
Your good struggle for my well-being today Sir
I will start back then Sir
When you and I were in school Sir
You would always consult from me Sir
Only to prepare yourself for the life you're in Sir.
Back then Sir, I would always write you notes Sir
Because you had to prepare for this legislative life Sir.
I should have sat your exams Sir,
but the school system could not let it Sir,
And I am sorry Sir,
For always performing slightly above you Sir.
I shouldn't have done that Sir.
Back then after school Sir,
We went in the field Sir,
To search for Jobs Sir.
I'm very sorry Sir,
I at times applied in the same institution,
where you too later applied Sir.
And by the power of bribery and blackmail Sir
You won the Job Sir.
I shouldn't have done that Sir
I ought to have known that you would apply in the same institution.
Sir I am sorry, for it was foolish of me not to think that Sir.
The political time drew nearer Sir
And then you consulted me Sir
If you could make a good leader Sir
Upon which I straight answered Sir
That no one would better you Sir
It's not me to be thanked Sir
I thank you that you privileged me by asking Sir
And I then forgot to thank you Sir
That you took up my opinion Sir.
You further gave me an opportunity Sir
To strategize how you could win Sir
And indeed Sir,
Victory was a slide Sir
For you real worked had Sir
To appear on the ballot paper Sir
And I who strategized Sir,
mobilised and campaigned for you to win Sir
Did not do much as deserved Sir.
I'm sure you weren't happy with me,
For I didn't do much Sir
I should have done something more Sir
Maybe to see you were unopposed Sir.
Your efforts pushed you to the Parliament Sir
And I, was just playing around Sir.
I understand the sacrifice Sir,
That you made just for my sake Sir
Accepting to move daily Sir
in this tiresome luxurious four wheels Sir
Thinking for the thousands of people you represent Sir
And with this, getting a pay of just the 25millions and a few allowances that I hear
For you are a rare kind!
We hear how tiresome that house called Parliament is Sir, Mr Honourable
But even when you feel sleep and eventually dose off Sir
You keep representing us in spirit Sir.
We ought to be grateful Sir
For you real have done more than sacrifice Sir..
Now here I am you ungrateful voter Sir,
Coming to beg from you Sir
Only a sack of Ugali Sir
And a handful of beans Sir
That I can use to feed my family,
Forgetting that you too have a family Sir
You have to stock them rice Sir
Sugar Sir
And all the goodies of the edibles they want Sir
For they cannot feed on the filthy Ugali am begging for
And fresh is a thing they can't live without.
The Pets in your enclosure Sir
Also need feeding Sir,
Milk, meat and their other imported supplies Sir
And for you personally Sir,
must reserve yourself a billion shs in your account
For any small emergency upon you Sir
But I, act as though I don't those troubles you have Sir.
I can now see the hardships Sir
And I ought to say thank you Sir
I have learnt to be grateful
That's why Sir
Before everyone of your fellow Honourables Sir
I am saying thank you Sir
For the burden you carry Sir
Just for my sake
Your ungrateful Voter Sir.
